The currency exchange currently rips off people the way it is set up.

If I can buy a gem for 50 copper then i should be able to get 2 for 100 copper. However not alot of people will do the math to find out how much 400 gems would be and just enter an amount in Gold and then silver to get 400 gems. What they don’t realize is that your getting ripped off cause u may be paying a bit more for the 400 gems then its worth.

If i can get 2 gems for 100 copper 1 silver and i enter is 1 silver 10 copper i still only get 2 gems and loose 10 copper. The amount drastically changes the higher the number of gems.

A fix for this is to have the player enter in the amount of gems they want and then display the price it would be for that.

I put in 2 gems system says that 1 silver. I put in 10 gems that 5 Silver.

Much better system charges appropriately.

It’s a money sink set up so people can not gain in short term.

I do too but that does mean everyone does. The average player wont. I think my fix would be alot more user friendly.

Yeah I would prefer it if you enter a number a gems you want to buy as well.. Since when I buy gems it’s often because I need a specific amount, say 800 for a new character slot. I rarely go around thinking that I need to hoard gems randomly because I have too much gold on me.

At least you could have both options, which would be pretty obvious when it comes to user-friendliness. :o

If you have an uneven amount of money in the exchange, it refunds the excess to you, it doesn’t keep it.

Yay for that, still from a usability point of view I think the vast majority of people want to buy specific amounts of gems, and not have specific amounts of gold they want to spend. That’s traditionally how you do it when it comes to stocks and investments, which isn’t what GW2 is primarily about I imagine. ^^

I mean why do you have to type in a random amount of gold you want to spend, and then try to approximate and narrow it down until you eventually find the amount that equals the amount of gems you need.. rather than have it the other way around.
It’s one of those extremely basic things that should have been there from early alpha stages, as it’s so obvious, and would make the lives easier for so many people wanting to buy gems. Unless there’s some underlying business model to it of course.

Might wanna look into that, I’ve tested it multiple times and it is not refunding the excess.

I second that it would be nice to be able to enter the number of gems you want to buy, and by extension, being able to enter the amount of gold you want to get when selling gems.

I do the exact same thing. Why wouldn’t you? It’s basic economics.

Because losing 10 copper isn’t going to break my wallet. I adjust the coinage until the number of gems I want shows up, then I hit Buy. If I’m losing 10-30 copper on the purchase, oh well. I can make that back with the vendor trash I gather over the next five minutes.

Although, I would like the option of just typing in the number of gems I want, instead of having to play the guessing game with my wallet, until I line up the numbers correctly.

I agree. It’s like when you go to trading post. Example: you want to buy copper.

You write in how much copper you want, and based on the price, it gives you a total.
You don’t write in how much gold you want to spend on copper…granted, it’s slightly different because you also modify the quantity…but the principle is the same.

The Gem Exchange seems to be doing it sdrawkcab.

I’ve confirmed that the exchange is functioning properly, and it does return any unevenly matched coin.

I just tested it results are as follows:

After typing different numbers and getting the rate, the cheapest I could get 1 Gem is
0g 0s 65b.

You can also type up to 0g 0s 96b for 1 Gem – but when you say Trade it will only take 0g 0s 65b for 1 Gem.

No refund is issued because excess gold is not taken.

Attempting to trade for a tiny amount of gems is a special circumstance due to minimum values set by the server.
