Currency convertion inaccurate, UK/US/etc
Europe has VAT. US doesn’t. Plus, the price for Gems is set, and doesn’t fluctuate with the value of the currency used.
FYI – the US dollar changes all the time too on the currency market
Yes the dollar changes all the time but I have never seen it equal to £8.50 and also, does VAT apply to virtual goods? All they are doing is accepting money from us, why is there such a inflation on the price?
Anet pays taxes on the transactions in Europe. The extra costs are, unfortunately, pass along to the European player base.
But the price differences shouldn’t be a surprise to you. There’s not a single thing that I know of where the price of goods changes with the value of the Euro, Pound, Yen, or any other non-US currency.
Well I play a lot of games and a lot of them keep the currency more or less fair to the US one and the few ones that don’t that haven’t even bothered to change the currency at all or overprice them have the option to at least pay with dollars, but not on this game.
I even tried to pay using paypal with dollars, they added on some tax so it was $10.81, even so it would have been cheaper than the UK set price by a pound and a half but it gave me a error when trying so whatever…it’s a lot of money for the amount of points you get anyway…I can buy like 1 thing with that.
Well, it’s better than some places that do 10$ = 10£ = 10€.
Yea I get to use this again. Copy and pasting.
That’s basically the ratio that everyone uses. Just check out the prices for the next gen consoles.
XBox One – $499.99, £429.99, €499.99 – 1 to 0.86 to 1
PS4 – $399, £349, €399 – 1 to 0.875 to 1
GW2 – $50, £42.50, €50 – 1 to 0.85 to 1
It’s to cover VAT, exchange rate fees and currency fluctuation. If anything GW2 favors the UK more than Microsoft or Sony.
