Dear Trading Post: I hate you.
I like the trading post. Every time I played Guild Wars 1 I was angry there wasn’t one.

This. I hated standing in Kamadan writing “WTS ……… X Y Z” thousands of times until I finally got a buyer. I must admit there’s more competition on the trading post. But I’m one of those players who rather get less profit and have more time to play the game, than wasting time trying to sell some items.
This game is so beholden to the TP, that its slowly becoming not fun to me anymore. Blizzard made this mistake with Diablo 3. ArenaNet seems to want to follow in its footsteps. Sad thing is even Blizzard realized (maybe too late for most) that loot needed to be fun and rewarding, it is not anymore in GW2.
I hate you Trading Post. You are ruining a game i loved.
I largely agree, its at the point now where I prefer subscription based games to F2P because the devs won’t need to be so beholden to the TP and RMT. Before the game was out I thought arenanet would be able to control it but they can’t.

My biggest issue with my hate towards the TP is the fact that the developers have said they adjust drop rates based on the TP.
Drop rates SUCK.
The only issues I have are the bugs within it, otherwise it’s the thingies boars don’t need.
For me, it’s not the TP that is the problem but rather the addition of real money trading. A gold TP could simply be an efficient mechanism for trading valuable items that you have no use for or to realize the fruits of your farming/crafting. You mentioned D3 and I agree that it was a loot wasteland; but, not because of the gold auction house but rather the real money auction house. If you compare WoW, which doesn’t have real money influencing the auction house or drops, you can see that efficient auction house based trading can work fine without creating a loot wasteland. But, when you are monetized through real money transactions, rewarding loot in-game cuts into the bottom line. There will always be that tension there and there is no easy answer for it.
The old subscription model created rewarding games; f2p games with real money transactions create reward for spending real money. Players play games to feel a sense of reward (among other things) so that’s why threads like this one are common. It will be interesting to see how it goes with GW2.
I also hate the trading post because the search filter SUCKS.
Why not add a ‘usable item’ filter? Or a specific type of armor filter (i.e. light, medium, heavy)?
I like the trading post because it allows you to search any item at any time. It kind of control players from trying to break item costs because they’re always accesible from here. It makes life easy.
That said, I LOVED going to Kamadan and convince players that my price for stuff (either selling or buying, or buying and then selling) was the right one. I spent lot of hours doing that to the point I mastered it :P Of course I never tried anything unfair, and many times they gave me more money than agreed by mistake and I quickly returned it to them, but I loved the negotiating process and I made a lot of money out of talking prices down and up with other players, and I think I miss that part a bit.
But all summed, the trading post makes life easier for everyone. My only sugestion would be to finally implement the preview button so I don’t have to go to websites to get the preview code of each item.
sorry to tell, but what TP supposed to do with drop / reward nerfs? Or with fact that players are not that many as it was 4 months ago anymore?
Game without organized trade is just outdated and nobody will pick it up our days.
You can’t make TP server based here as we can change servers (nonsense or you want to jump servers and look for more profit?)
Just meditate about number of players here and may be you’ll find this idea not so good. =D
i hate that gem store affect all prices in tp why cant they just be cosmetic/soulbound and i wouldn’t mind being able to trade why not? no fee that’s great and if its a friend of you then its even better. the mailing system is NOT trading its highly insecure for obvious reasons.
Direct player to player trading is a strong social feature of mmorpg’s. Removing direct trading from a game just to try tackle gold farmers only punishes the millions of legitimate mmorpg gamers.

I highly doubt this is the case.

Where exactly have they said that? I haven’t seen that anywhere and even if it were true that doesn’t seem like information any developer would be stupid enough to give to the general population.

Yeah this is correct its not the TP in isolation, its the combination with rmt.

I have played maplestory europe. For those who played it too, nuff said.
For those that didn’t – be thankful for trading post, as it can get worse…much worse.
And it exists so devs can keep eye out for things. With player to player trades botting/exploits etc could be done without anyone ever noticing. Trading post and mail system leave traces to detect and track any suspicious transactions.
There is nothing wrong with TP, its quit a good TP. Imo, the fees are too high. Also, anything less than rare has become garbage. However this is a drop issue and not a TP issue.

Yes, I would like to see the source of this too, it’s like people like to make many false claims all the time just to give them a bad name.

They have stated they have a person managing the ingame economy. It has been a while ago, so I a link will be hard to find. But I imagine that this person looks a the TP and adjusts drop rate such that overpriced items lower in price. That is not really a bad thing I guess.

Agree with this completely, in the last two month nothing has been done about lodestone prices. For many of us who missed the first few weeks of release and cheap TP prices its completely unfair how hammer wielders can buy molten lodestones for more than 4 times less than charged lodestones and great sword users.
Anyone asking about the source, the OP might be referring to this, in which the statement is paraphrased as supply and demand being out of sync and them doing adjustments every day.
