Just for clarification, what fulfills the criteria for getting the reward(s) in January: all-at-once purchases (an 800 or a 4000 gem purchase) or will accumulated purchases (for the 4k) made throughout the month count?

While you should wait for an official answer and take mine with a grain of salt, I’m fairly sure it’s an accumulated calculation rather than spending either $10 or $50.

I’d like to throw in a quick follow up question in hopes it gets answered as well.

When does it start counting purchases? Because I just spent $35 for gems on the 29th or 30th, and I’m going to be really bummed if I miss out because I spent my money a day or two before the special. I would have waited, I didn’t actually need the gems, just felt like contributing.

According to the email I got it says

“Your rewards will be based on gems purchases and gem code redemptions between 12:01 AM December 1 and 11:59 PM December 31 PST. In early January, you’ll receive the gifts you unlocked!”

So your probably out of luck if you purchased before December 1st

Blast it. Guess I’m gonna just have to stop buying gems from now on and just use gold instead. I like to support Anet, but I’m getting tired of getting screwed out of things just because they drop stuff like this on me.

Or you can write to customer support and explain the situation, and perhaps they will want to keep a customer happy and qualify you for the gifts anyway. It’s not like it costs them anything to toss a couple of in-game items to you.
