Hi I think I cut my gold from 50 to 25 since this what I did;

Bought about 250ea of skins (halloween etc.) for 7s each now they’re 2.5 ea.
Should I hold them? Sell them and reinvest?
Did I just royally mess up? Or could they go back to 7s?
What are your thoughts?

It depends on the supply of each. But still, I believe it’s not gonna go up for a few months.
It’s your choice to hold it and try to sell later, or sell now and reinvest assuming your loss. If you don’t need that money badly and have bank space, let it sit there.

Ok this is serious advice, I would hold onto it just for the chance of getting your money back I don’t believe in panic dumping it because it purely guarantees loss. I’ve had this happen to me before and just wait abit if it gets to a good amount like 6s dump it. Don’t make such hasty decisions next time

Eek bit of a problem there I’m casual and basically for the next 2 months because of school I won’t be able to play much at all. Well 3 since April = exams :p

I know a method that should make me about 30-50% of my profit each week. So that’s my problem. If holding it really is the wiser thing or not.

UGH I feel so stupid now >_<

How long do you all think it will take to recover my gold? Will it reach 7S soon? or?

so what do you all think? Would selling them and reinvesting just be faster?

No one knows if it’ll reach 7s soon or not, I doubt it considering the supply. Also, you’ve been suggested to just hold onto it unless you absolutely need your money back and are willing to settle for that loss of 25g should you sell then and reinvest in something else.

I’ll say what they both said, if you don’t need your money back right away then let it sit and the price may go up a few months or so later. Otherwise, take the loss and sell it back. Honestly, I wouldn’t panic and I’d just hold it. And this is coming from someone who isn’t rich and considers 25g a lot >.> Though not hard to build up with a nice session of farming.

I feel your pain, I bought several stacks of something when the price was going up, but the price then tanked. Thankfully the price is going back up so they may sell in a couple of weeks.

As for your items, you can use websites like http://www.gw2spidy.com to see what the price is doing and make a decision based on that.

The danger of buying seasonal stuff is when it is out of season people are left with stuff they want to get rid of and dump it for what they can get, resulting in the price tanking after the season has ended. It may take quite some time before the price recovers, and thats only if people are buying the item out of season. Piece of candy corn for example, its price tanked after halloween as people tried to get rid of what they had, but the price is slowly climbing and in a month or so it may reach end of halloween price level.

okay, I guess I’m going to buy some gem cards and wait a week or so.
But for me the problem is I have a method that will make make me around 40% profit each week.
I’m just annoyed now since this was so dum. I wish I’d never touched it.

The premise for them spiking was flawed, so it’s no doubt they tanked again. They were speculated on because the clothes vendor was going away, but that method of buying skins was far more expensive than buying them straight off the tp anyways, so it going away should have no impact on general supply/demand. They’ll still rise slowly over time after this however (although they could fall a bit more before then).

I did find it odd that the Christmas skins went up so fast (though they should probably sell a little higher). What confuses me more is why the Consortium stuff came back down. Someone poured a LOT of money into spiking them, and then seemed to give up. I actually think they sort of warrant the value they hit (and maybe higher) too, given they’re not as likely to be restocked as the Halloween/Christmas skins.

it does suck when something you invested in goes down.
you have a good idea the price will eventually go back up, so it’s likely that if you hold onto them long enough you’ll eventually make a profit.
but if you sell now at 50% loss, it’s possible to re-invest it and make more profit during that same time (10% profit per day over 2 months = 30,548% profit)
that’s why I tend to stay away from the long-term investments.

That said, part of my current investments is long-term :P (it is a good idea to diversify) but that’s only because it has almost zero risk (buying items for 1c more than merchant price and potentially HUGE payoffs (2,500% profit) – if it ever pays off. I’m really only doing it because I’ve gathered enough gold that I can’t invest it all in a timely manner.

also: I’m sitting on a previous crummy long-term investment: candy corn. I bought around 60 stacks at 5c each during halloween. then they went down to 2c :P bought another 60 stacks. At the time, I decided to post them on the TP for 10c each and am waiting until it finally pays off (soon! – they’re up to 7c atm)

last bit of advice: never invest everything you have. always keep maybe half of your gold in supply. so if another great investment comes up, you can invest half of that gold into it. and so on. it lets you be ready for this changing market

That happens to a lot of market flippers when they first discover that its not as easy as it sounds on the forums to just “control a market and charge whatever you want”.

True, but whoever did this pumped hundreds of gold into it (or a lot of people had exactly the same idea). I also don’t quite understand who was hoarding Consortium stuff and decided that it should sell for less than a gold in some cases. I mean, obviously the skins aren’t as cool as the ones that sell in the hundreds of gold (maybe the Clipper), but its literally a one-time event.
