Differences between statement and reality
I ran into similar things with limited-edition gem store dyes.
Flame & Frost dye kits commemorating the escape of refugees who were under attack? let’s re-release it during halloween, winters day, the middle of february, and during several one-sale-a-day-for-a-whole-month sales.
Sometimes good bets turn bad because of someone’s decision. I bet people who bought perm hair contract at 5,000g are kicking themselves.

New Chaos weapon skins are available for the next four weeks from Black Lion Weapons Specialists for the introductory price of one Black Lion Weapon Ticket. Black Lion Weapon Tickets can be found in Black Lion Chests
Technically, the statement is accurate: the skins were available for 4 weeks. They also happened to be available beyond that date.
I do agree that someone on the marketing team needs to pay attention to word choice: “exclusive dye” steers people the wrong way, when what ANet meant was “limited availability.”
However, regardless, the reason speculation can be so profitable is that it’s risky. There’s no guarantee that ANet won’t re-release items, tweak drop rates, or introduce new features/content that makes stuff worth 10g, when last week you were thrilled to get 10s.
I don’t expect ANet to make it simple for me to figure it out.
Recently I decided to invest in chaos weapons after reading the August patch notes that the value of one ticket would only be for four weeks. We are in the fifth week now, since 12 august. That kind of thing harms investors. If investing is not good, just remove it from game. Now if it is in the rules, please don’t do this type of thing, it’s like make someone go on a sinking ship.

I am not speaking only because of chaos weapons, but for that kind of thing does not happen in the future. It is not very cool
If you expected to cash in on chaos weapons this week, you are dillusional. Just because their ticket price goes up, doesnt mean that their gold value will rise accordingly.
Everybody who fancied a chaos weapon skin, will have gotten it during the last 4 weeks, so you have to wait for new players to demand them. That will take a couple of months at least. I actually expect their price to fall further AFTER their ticket price was raised. Why?
Mostly “casual” tp players invest into these skins because they heard its a good idea. But usually they dont have the patience to wait it out for a couple of months and once the next patch goes live with another item they need to have instantly, they sell their stock to get some cash.
Most BL skins are cheapest a couple of weeks AFTER their price in tickets was raised.

I was considering investing in those but settled for LeyLine skins which are slowly creeping up.
Still, give it time OP. The thing with skins is they’re like ticking vaults. After about a month in most cases, it’s impossible to not make a profit.
I was buying them up all last month for nearly 100G a pop, then anet decides to continue selling them past the update AND doubles the drop rate of tickets from chests.
Now they are down 35% from what I paid for them and the market will be flooded for some time.
Yuck.
it’s probably not too bad. Some of the other investment are worse.
For example dwayna recipe went from 4000 gold to 100 gold.
I bought a bunch of keeper’s recipe, went from 1000 gold to 200 gold, I waited a few month and sold it for 1000 gold, and now it is 3000 gold.(well actually 2000 after I recheck it) All I can say Lol.

I like it, gives me more time to get 19 tickets to get the collection myself.
Um, when you decided to invest, you knew you were taking a risk. And if you didn’t, then now you know; that’s how investing works.
It’s not supposed to be a guaranteed gain.
And it’s not a “mechanic” that they can just “remove from the game.” The presence of a trade system makes it possible and they are not going to remove all trade…
I trusted in what was on patch notes. That was my mistake
I trusted my own interpretation of the patch notes being an absolute statement. That was my mistake

Lesson learned: Always assume that game design is fluid and will change.
http://www.patheos.com/blogs/friendlyatheist/2014/06/13/hobby-lobby-fined-more-than-220000-for-deceptive-advertising-in-new-york/
“Hobby Lobby Fined More Than $220,000 for Deceptive Advertising in New York … Turns out they advertised several items as being on sale… but when those items are never not on sale, it’s not really a sale at all. It’s false advertising.”
It’s not the best comparison, I know, but it does show that it’s not OK to have misleading sales.
There’s also cases of places being sued for saying something is on sale for it’s regular price ($100 shoes marked as $200, 50% off for $100).
Then there’s this funny gem:
http://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/money/business/2014/04/22/vicking-international/8023445/
“A Victor, Ontario County, furniture store has agreed to pay a $30,000 fine for violating fair advertising practices with an [un]usually long ‘going-out-of-business’ sale. .. Though the Town of Victor warned the store it was in violation of advertising practices when it continued to run the store long after its advertised limit, an investigation by the attorney general found the store also continued to order new merchandise, a violation of state law on such sales.”
If this were not inside a game where we agreed to terms and conditions which state something like “I agree that I am wrong and you are right on anything and everything while I am logged in”, I believe they would be susceptible to being sued for false advertising.
Instead, all we have at our disposal is to recognize they are sneaky puppies and not buy stuff when we feel cheated.

This can be easily explained without accusing ANet of fraud, unethical behavior, or even “sneakiness.” How is it advantageous to them to misstate the dates of availability? What do they get out of it in the short or long run? Bupkus or worse.
ANet has always been lax with their proofreading skills, from “obvious” misspellings in item/skill descriptions to forgetting to update old terms to new ones, to finding the most convoluted ways to describe stuff (infusions vs agony infusions, infused vs ascended, simple infusions that aren’t simple, etc).
And sometimes they are just forgetful or thoughtless about stuff. They implement a good idea, but forget to tell us. They have a bad idea that could have been good, had they gotten some feedback first.
So, the fact that they said Chaos Weapons would be available for four weeks just means that’s what they said at the time. Maybe they meant it. Maybe things changed and the new skins weren’t ready in time.
In any case, the OP counted their chickens before the eggs hatched: any time we speculate, we take a risk that things won’t go the way we predicted. Past performance is no guarantor of future earnings, your mileage might vary, and piso mojado.
My guess is, it was supposed to be 4 weeks but they forgot to put in a turn off timer. And since it’s not critical, they will turn it off and make it 5 tickets when they notice, and when they get around to it.
There seems to be a lot of little things that fall between the cracks and this seems to be one of them.
Hmm… so let me get this right, Anet has something on sale, and because its on sale for a bit longer than they might have intended at first ,thus giving their beloved customers more time to get it for cheaper (because who doesn’t want that) people are complaining. Wow, just wow.
Investing is something you do at your own risk to be honest and they can’t exactly remove it from the game, I’d like to see your suggestion on how to do that. Also BL skins are always a LONG TERM investment that requires patience, 2 moths down the line you will still make a profit from all those skins you’re holding so this is a non issue imo.

BL Skins never had a timer because they arent sold directly in the gem store.

I was referring to them changing from one ticket to five tickets. (See the bolded part above). That I suspect they forgot to put in a timer to make this change automatically.

And i simply stated that BL skins arent sold in the gem store, so where do you want them to put a timer?
I have never seen a timer at the black lion weapons specialist.

I’m not talking about the gem store at all. I don’t know where you got that idea.
When it changed previously for the other skins from one ticket to five. I’m pretty sure this happened automatically. That at whatever time on the appointed day (reset maybe) the black lion weapon seller changed from one ticket to five.
That’s the timer I’m referring to. A timer for the computer to keep track of time and do the automatic switch by the BL weapon seller from one ticket to 5 tickets at the end of the 4 weeks. I suspect they forgot to put that in for this set since it was automatic for all the previous sets.

I don’t think this was a mistake but intended. It’s their way of evening out the gap between TP traders and those who buy a few keys once in a while. Second reason is they want people to sink all their keys into chaos skins to clean the previous key runners from their tickets. That will take a while, probably only after about two new weapon sets have been released. Third reason is people for some reason want to complete the chaos skin collection for 7 tickets which is insanely expensive, they just don’t realize it yet. And last but not least, the chaos weapon set is a huge gold sink any way you look at it.
I expect prices to tank hard after the ticket price has been adjusted.
