Do Arenanet make markets?
No, they do not. But they HAVE made changes to drop rates or modified new recipes when they feel that certain items are too hard to get, or have major oversupply. Examples are:
1. Increase of Vanilla Bean drops
2. Introduction of Ecto → Crystalline Dust salvage
3. Increase of Silk/Thick Leather upgrade to 3 from 2
Don’t know. Ideally not since they can control drop rates if they want to regulate supply.
RIP City of Heroes
Arenanet employees are players in the game and they can buy and sell items. But arenanet as a company is not removing or adding orders. Any attempt at market manipulation that arenanet has done has been pretty transparent. (Like putting in a merchant to turn 250 of an item to an event item).

They made the game didn’t they? They control all of the droprates, yes? So there, the whole market is made by them, I don’t understand why the question.
They don’t manually remove or add items to the TP. That’s just shady.
What they will do is influence the game enough so that the players themselves will remove/add items to the TP when they see fit.

Yes.
They do this by creating demand for items that have very high supply and very low demand. Getting rid of 10 million thick leather sections will be interesting but, I’m sure they will make it lucrative for people to buy them at some point.

Made quite the killing on thick leather sections when sinks were introduced in the Zephyr sanctum =)
Ascended armor will soon come out too.
