Guild Wars 2

I know you get them from some personal storylines, map completion, and sometimes from dailies. But do they actually drop anywhere in the world? Like, from chests or mobs?

I’ve been playing since launch, and I haven’t seen one drop in the world so far.

They do, albeit at an annoyingly rare rate. I’ve gotten at least 2 via drop so far.

Beyond those awarded by the personal story, I never ever found a single one and it wasn’t for lack of playing.

219 combined levels and I’ve seen 2 drop as loot since the head start.

Good thing they sometimes turn up in the chests themselves though. I’ve opened like thirty of them with just a few keys thanks to that.

I’ve had a total of 3 drop since launch, on 7 characters. So yes, they’re rare, but they do drop every now and then. Just don’t bother farming for them.

I’ve had like 30 of them in first 2 weeks of game, but since that time I’ve seen maybe 2-3 drops.

2 80s, a few 15-30 and one 42, never gotten a single one to drop.

But that is the type of luck I have which is why I won’t ever buy those keys off the gemstore.

In the first 2 or 3 weeks of the game I got several (I think around 10.)

Since then – NOTHING.

They probably stopped giving them away because once people see how bad the reawards are they will never buy a key.

I’ve gotten one key as a drop (from a cat), but I haven’t seen one drop in weeks. The drop rate is extremely low.

Yes, they do drop normally. Here’s some proof:

I had my very first key drop for me yesterday from a mob.

I was very surprised.

Just a note: My character is level 80 and has killed tons. The drop rate is very very low.

The keys do drop, but rarely. This item is the biggest joke in the game atm. $2.00 to buy a key to open a chest that gives you junk fluff. I highly doubt A.Net is making any money off these keys just based off the amount of supply on the market for Chests.

They should start selling keys for 10 gems lol or up the drop rate to be slightly below that of the Chests. Hell they could also make a mystic forge crafting recipe to get more keys.
