Edit: It appears what was predicted has been observed: Gem prices falling off cliff. It may take up to a month to get back to 3g range on a stable level depending on how long it takes players to rotate back into the game.

…If the next patch released will have a “Tier 7” line of crafting gear and new caps on skills, then next week there will be a rush on gold finally for once in this game. Why? Because players will wish to level their crafting skill to 500 as fast as possible and will be willing to pay super high prices for Tier 7 gear… far higher then current prices of Tier 6 gear.

Furthermore: Interest in “new” Legend-class weapons will only push materials for them and perhaps their prices even higher. Thus a increase in demand of gold will occur.

If the current invasions stop next week, then the farming of events that has massively driven up gold supply in last two weeks will be gone. Thus less gold in supply and less crafting materials in supply will change prices.

Now it is possible there will be little effect for one reason or another… if players do not decide to buy gems with Earth Currency in order to buy gold or if players that have gem reserves do not exchange them for gold. Nonetheless this is unlikely.

Therefore what is a player to do? If you want Gold for your Gems(Gems>Gold)… trade now while you can. Else DONT TRADE FOR ANY GEMS UNTIL NEXT WEEEK (Gems>Gold) It will probably take several days for this deflation to occur so don’t expect a high rate of change right on patch release date.

When new legendaries come out, I guarantee you people will be selling gems to fund their legendary ASAP. Precursors will cost +1000g and all those t6 mats and lodestones will be painfully expensive.

Indeed… which means the Gold>Gem price will fall off a cliff from aroung 5g now to down to 3g or lower even.

You’re all focusing on what materials are needed to craft ascended weapons, speculating like mad, but you’re not focusing on the obvious. What does anyone need after they crafted a weapon? (except for the obvious: love, peace on earth, and pizza).

No matter… since I currently don’t use gear with the infused upgrade slots I don’t know much about it. But yes that would be true too.

On other note: Perhaps its time to speculate and buy all mats in expectation that prices will surge next week? Easy gold therefore!

I don’t have infusions on my weapons either.
I do use sigils, however. Very nifty little buggers. Used to be very expensive, if I recall correctly. You know, before we “suddenly” got flooded with new exotics carrying a truckload of them. I wonder why that was implemented? Mmmmm.

Erm… my reading of the 401-500 crafting was that it uses time gated mats, so there is no ‘fastest way possible’.

You make one big mistake.

People who work their kitten off IRL to buy gems, won’t sell them for a price that’s too low to be considered fair. Many people on the forums have commented that “fair” would be around 5gp/100gems. Regardless of what happens next week, gem prices have to rise a lot before the stable equilibrium is reached.

A small dip might happen, but I don’t think the rich casuals are the ones who’ll want ascended weapons yesterday. They’re more likely to go for a legendary instead.

Someone hoping that they can buy more gems with his gold? Not gonna happen

Looks like indeed the prices fell off a cliff as expected… got close to 4g at one point. It should continue to fall down somewhere in the 3g range. Furthermore if you look at the graph in-game it appears the prices fall off the cliff during peak game hours and recover a little bit on late hours. Thus indeed players (likely casual ones) are converting gems into gold as expected.

No matter: For anyone who traded gold>gems pre super box patch.

Actually they ALMOST hit 5.5g…. just as I had been anticipating all along.

The price drop right now though is not so much because of Legendary Mats themselves (except for Soft & Ancient Wood… that ones a bit of an outlier but it doesn’t affect Swords/Greatsword nearly as much as it affects ascended bows). …I attribute it a lot more to the cost of maxing 500 crafting.

And that’s not to say that it costs too much no… It’s obvious from the design that we were supposed to take a good month to hit 500 in crafting on even 2 disciplines at the same time but you’ve already got some people hitting 500 on all 3 of them in the same week. And if a lot of those people aren’t doing it with a huge surplus they’d been wisely saving up for months ahead, then yeah it’s going to have a huge (but only temporary!) impact in general on the commerce system.
