I’m quite confused with the new celestial food…

How to Make it :
2 White Cakes (2s3c ea) = 4s6c
50 Saffron Thread (2s50c ea) = 1g25s
40 Piece of Zhaitaffy (6c ea) = 30c
1 Pile of Crystalline Dust = 11s79c
Total : 1g41s69c

So why do they cost about 40s on the TP?
Is there another method of obtaining these? Whats causing this huge price difference?

as i’ve told my guildies, enjoy the artificial saffron spike. look at the price over the last day compared to weeks before.

Yea I guess the people making them didn’t count on saffron spiking that hard. Or they thought that “if I gathered it, it’s free anyway!”, then made the food, and undercut the last person by 1 copper. Except the last person didn’t have a clue what the real price should have been.

kitten I knew I should have bought more than one stack of saffron at 35c.

And the recipe makes 2 cakes so you need to halve the final price.

if you used buy orders while saffron, white cake, frosting were cheap, you could make about 12s per starcake. Those are still up for sale and new postings are either the aforementioned “i gathered it so it’s free” people, or people liquidating stock.

So isn’t this verging heavily on pay to win? Food with the best stats in the game only available via something bought in the gem store.

I assume its usable in WvW.

It’s not in anyway “the best stats” Its ok for general purpose but not good for any specialized build.

Take a condition build. Do you think he will benefit the most from starcake?
Or koi cake with 40% longer condition duration + condi dps?

And its not only available via gemstore. Only the recipe. As already discussed you can buy starcakes on the TP cheaper than you could make them yourself if you had the recipe.

So whats your point again?

Koi Cakes for me! I’m a bit disappointed, but hey, it’s a lot cheaper.

only if you’re one of those spreadsheet RP’ers (like izzy) who thinks Divinity’s is “the best”.

my only complaint here is that I didn’t pull the trigger on selling all my stacks of Saffron YESTERDAY when they were going for 1.8s each. (I bought them all for 11c ea, just a few days earlier)

^actually if you think about or calculate it, divinity runes/celestial set up definitely isn’t the best (though the runes are nice for crit power builds) :p This food on the other hand is.

As someone who long stood up for ANet and often reminded people on this and other forums what real pay-to-win is, I am highly disappointed with this recipe only being available through gambling “chests”.

I’m pretty much at a loss for words, and that’s rare for me.

It’s interesting the extent you guys micro manage this stuff. I’ve found what personally works for me is to forget optimizing profit, by spending time watching the market, and sell to make SOME profit. In a nut shell when I just enjoy the game, and limit my spending all I have is profit ‘cause I’m hunting and gathering while something is pending in TP.

Anyway on another note I use Divinity Runes, and Ascended Accessories, because I’m always retraiting, and my favorite weapon set up is sword/shield & rifle which both use crit chance, crit dmg, power, cond dmg, cond dura, etc, etc. I do have a few different sets of armor, and with a Warrior it’s true; condition dmg isn’t gonna do anything for you with a GS. Condition duration however is nice for vulnerability, cripple, and immobilize.
