I just posted this in another thread but it was mostly off topic so i thought i open a new one, if anybody wants to discuss this. Here goes:

During the first days of the first patch I did some farm commanding and logged my loot. In 1 hour i got:
3.21g in pure gold rewards from event completions, lootbags, champ bags and direct gold drops from mob kills (I have a gilded infusion on my amulet, those drops of ~1s add up)
Other loot I either salvaged and sold or sold directly, whatever was more profitable. I listed everything by undercutting the lowest listing by 1c:
- 9 t6 fine mats sold for 3.67g
- 45 t5 fine mats sold for 1.2g
- 7 rares for 3.9g
- 1 exo for 3.2g
- various other mats from salvaging, harvesting, etc. or blues/greens 3.3g
Overall, more than 18g per hour. Even though personal mileage my vary depending on mf (and running com tag certainly helps in tagging mobs and having the zerg behind you finish them off) i guess its quite a good gold/h ratio.
The last time he saw a farm event like this was during last years pavillon/invasions. My theory about that farm fest still is that it was introduced to prepare the economy for ascended crafting which was introduced shortly after but one side effect of it was that people sold all their loot to buy precursors, which saw a huge price spike during that time.
The same could happen now.

Wanze farms? I never knew ;o

So none of this loot you received came from the locked boxes? Just event mobs/rewards?

I mentioned many times that i farm as well. Usually i will still make less gold per hour farming stuff than playing the tp but I consider it research. The mayority of players is playing this content atm so it has a huge impact on the tp, especially the kind of loot it drops. When you are trading, it makes a huge difference, if you know why a certain item just dropped in price and it might be a good idea to put in buy orders for it next weekend, when most people are online and prices will be at an all time low and the meta will shift with next update, so supply will dry up eventually.
Just like you, i have more fun (and profit) with speculative trading. I try out every new content Anet releases to check droprates etc.
I was a big fan of your farming guide that you released a couple of months ago (and closed after megaserver was released) because it was good advice for the general public. But at any point i would have been able to make 5g more per hour with a dedicated farming party of 5 or 7.5g more per hour commanding a farming zerg by going for mats that are in demand atm because i monitor items in demand frequently.
Examples are Poultry Meat at 6s atm, or destroyer slivers (tier1) during the start of Spring Tourney when they sold for 50/60s to make Ascalonian Potions.
I dont make the amount of profits on the tp that i do because its easy going, i put in research outside of the game (external websites) and inside of the game, everytime new content is released.
The more research you do and the more knowledge you have about the game, the easier it gets to make profits. Just imagine finding an event that gives you lootbags that have poultry meat and destroyer slivers on their loot table and spawn level 12 mobs frequently while you have a party of fully ascended zerker toons with 25 stacks of bloodlust.

Edit: Concerning lockboxes: No, none of the loot i got was from lockboxes. Events during the sandstorm give way too much loot to pass them in order to look for buried treasure (i guess thats what you mean by locked boxes). I Might have opened 1 or 2 buried treasures along the way, but i would guess the value would be neglectible.
I didnt make a focussed farm run yet with the new area and more events to complete but i would estimate that i could get my loot value up to 25g per hour, by just tagging all champ events and focussing on farm events that spawn lots of regular mobs.

T4/5 Dry Top maps are indeed VERY profitable. It’s similar to the Gold Boss Blitz runs, really. It’s getting into one that proves a bit of a headache if you play at off-peak hours like I do.

There are at least 3-5 events that start every 5 minutes from the hour. Some events are bonus events that only spawn, if you finished a pre-requisitive event.
Some events only spawn a champ, some events spawn alot of mobs but no champ.

Usually people are drawn to champ events because they think they give the best loot but for loot over time those events are rubbish.
You want to be part of events that spawn lots of regular mobs because your loot for killing 30 of those in 5 minutes will be far more valuable than what you get for killing a champ.
Ideally, you just participate im mob farm events, while inbetween going to a champ event, tag the champ for 5-10 seconds, to get credit and rewards, and then move on to the next mob farm event.

Sadly ANet nerfed the Dust Mite event today. No more multi-chances for Charged/Onyx Lodestones.

Ah well. I still kill all Dust Mites I come across anyway. And also the Skritt for their bags of shinies. Charged Lodestones can come from those too. (Although, if you really want to heavy farm level 80 Skritt, the best place to do so is in the NW corner of the Borderlands map in WvW. Lots of fast respawning Skritt, and hardly anybody ever goes there, so you’re not likely to be bothered by enemy players.)
