Duplicate Gemstore Skins
It’s a good question – I stockpile skins of things I like, so I’ve got a few duplicates left.
It’s something I reckon ANet will keep quiet on for a bit, lol.
But, as someone in Gen Disc pointed out, even if they don’t refund you any gems, the skins are useful for a free transmute.
Yes while its true you get a free Transmute out of it, I have probably spent about 2000+ gems on duplicate skins just because I knew I wanted to use them later on but now I have several unopened ones. And I mean a couple of free transmutes definitely would not be equivalent to the amount that a skin or a set costs…
I also bought some armor skins twice. But hey, one free transmute for 800 Gems aka 10 bucks.. seems like a good deal to me.

LOL! only the transmute cost is almost nothing to that of the lost gem-skin cost
Open a ticket with support. I can guarantee you that they’ll refund your gem purchases of duplicates because of the feature patch’s contents.
I’d like to know this as well. And if there will be any difference b/w those who spend real world vs gold.
Don’t open the ticket YET though. Gaile mentioned on the Support forums that their staff aren’t able to do anything for you until the Apr 15th patch.
But yes, as someone who bought 2 Marjory’s Daggers, I fully expect to receive a refund for our excess skins.
I’ve never asked for a refund on any gem purchase, not once, and I bet I count as one of the “whales” in the store. I’m likely to now, however, especially on my multiple town clothes that won’t even be useable for RP any more.
Now … what about the BLT Weapon Trader skins? I spent a lot of tickets on those, as well as gold on the TP on yet more skins, so I don’t know how they can say what I got from the gem store chests, but it would be lovely to get tickets back for double skins like my two Lovestruck Daggers and two Lovestruck Foci.
I have like 8 pirate costumes, one is still unopened. If there is no refund then if is like we are being punished for supporting Anet and getting more than one. I would even except gems or other costumes.
I also bought 2 Marjory Dagger skins. One is not assigned yet, as I bought it for future use since this was a one day offer.
So why was Anet letting us buy extras just a day before the announcement, knowing that it was a waste of money?
That’s why I’m sure that ANet will refund us the gems for duplicate account bound skins. They did so when the infinite tools became account bound, and they’ll probably do the same now.
Skins that are tradable, like the various Black Lion skins, may be more iffy since those can be resold for profit.
The update isn’t for three weeks. In that time, wouldn’t you guys use your spare Marjory skins if you had the opportunity? I’ve got a stack of gem store skins unused and I’m looking at them as “free” transmutes if I’ve not had a chance to use them by then.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?

Did I say it was? I’m trying to look on the bright side here!
I have spent hundreds of pounds in the gem store, and a lot of that will have been on duplicate sets of armour and weapon skins, so I stand to lose a lot of that.
But am I still going to play the game even if I can’t get a refund? Yes. So ultimately, I sort of have to accept that with some grace. I always said before we had any confirmation of a wardrobe system in place that I’d be willing to eat the cost for a wardrobe system (though, admittedly, I had anticipated not having transmutation charges …)

Re the BLT Weapon Trader skins, I would sell those on the TP. If they become account-wide unlockables too, people will want them more.
On the other side why would Anet put the Marjory Dagger skin for sale just hours before this announcement? They could have sold a non-skin item.
I have said form the beginning that Anet should have had account skins like in GW1. And am thankful that they finally saw the light.
On the other hand I have spent hundred of dollars on BLT company items and will feel very betrayed if I do not get some sort of compensation. It just is not fair that my costume and weapons skins will cost double or in one case EIGHT TIMES the cost that others will pay now.
I sent in a refund request and suggest we band together and everyone do the same. If you had not bought multiple skins it might be nice for you guys to support us, even with your poses here.

I hope they offer some sort of compensation for it.
I actually have two chef outfits, but one of them is unopened. I bought two accidentally because the “mail full” bug that existed at the start of the game prevented me from receiving my purchase, and the UI did not make it abundantly clear that it had gone through. It’s been sitting in my bank for over a year and half, just always taking up a space.
I had planned to possibly equip it to someone, but didn’t want to clutter more space with spare town clothes. Now that the extra chef outfit more or less pointless, it would be nice to get something back for it.
Hoping for a refund as well… I have 2 Phoenix Armor skins sitting unopened in my bank at the moment.
