Dusk Watch
with 6 precursors I’d also consider the world fine. 2 legendarys are no problem with such an amount.
I got two in orr in the same week. Focus and scepter and they sold for around 120g together.
I got dagger and zap in Wv3. Zap used for bolt and dagger was sold for 300g.
I got dusk twice from MF. Why twice? Bc I dumped the first one into the MF accidentally as I wanted to keep trying with the rest of my exotics after I got it.
All the money I made selling the other three went into 4 T3 armors and several black and white dyes as for 50 transmutation stones for 1600 gems. So I had no advantage for my legendaries out of them.
I started for Bolt with 0 (zero) of everything and it took me around 4-5 weeks. Without the precursor drop just add another 3-4 weeks. So getting a legendary in 2-3 months is not okay?
In my eyes people just want a ridiculously easy achievment to be a faceroll. Getting all the legendaries can be achieved in less than a year if you really fokus on it. If you spend 30% of your ingame time like I do working towards it, it can be done in less than two years.
B4 you start. Yes, I do have job, friends and real life.

Just because YOU, a single player, got extremely lucky, does not imply the global precursor situation is okay.
Okay?
As it is accesible to buy one or get one from MF, the droprate is totally fine.
Last week I saw drop 5 precursors in fractal dailys at the maw fractal in low levels (10-20).
Just stop farming dragons and temples for it and do something fun. Dont force it! your game experience will not improve because of it. Ppl are obsessed with precursors. just let it happen. Eventually it will all be there in your bank and inventory.

For the last kittening time.
The problem with precursors is the lack of a finite, deterministic, difficult, skill-based method of obtaining one.
The thing is, John Smith has already provided data that the Precursors are sold at the current prices.
And various players have provided simple mathematical proofs that “manipulating” precursors isn’t a good way of making money, in terms of profit/time.
And yes, ANet deliberately put in some piece of equipment that they intended would take a long time to get. And honestly, making it a very low drop is pretty much the only valid way of doing it, without excluding some demographic of the player base. And even if they made it based on “skill”, you would run into the question regarding the difficulty. What is tough enough? What is too much? And hell, is it even fair to do that?
The problem with precursors is the lack of a finite, deterministic, difficult, skill-based method of obtaining one.
Oh come on. “Deterministic” has “finite” as a premise. Stop trying to sound so fancy.
And again, what is the right kind of “skill”? And where in that skill is the borderline between “difficult” and “too difficult”? And what about people who might end up being excluded from getting a Legendary due to these restrictions due to reasons that they cannot change, such as being located in a far away place?

Why should a precursor (a weapon at that) be so rare that it usually ends up as the last part in making a legendary. As a weapon, shouldn’t they have a purpose like being equipped rather than sitting in storage waiting for the price to go up or something?
Because its a precursor? that’s in its name.
And that’s the only item that makes Legendary unique. Everything else you’ll get with easy. Without even trying. Simply playing the game. You can get a precursor that way as well, don’t get me wrong, but usually you have to actually work towards one to get it.
A precursor doesn’t have to be a weapon. Nor does it make the legendary “unique”. Each legendary requires a gift of “legendary name” already anyway. And exactly because there is no method to acquire a precursor other than gambling or buying off the TP is the problem. BTW, what ‘requires’ work is the gift of mastery.

And what would be considered skill?
Dungeons? Fractals and Arah are ridiculously easy and still many groups cannot clear them on high level.
I myself am a PvP/Wv3 player 70% of the time. The rest I do dailies, help friends get certain gear in dungeons and overall explore Tyria again and again, especially JP.
I dont want to be forced into PvE to get it.

You should watch buy orders rather than sell listings.
That is the actual worth of the item, and I can guarantee you that it’s for a lot less.
Nah, buy orders are just clever ppl who know that ppl who get the drop and dont want it, want money immidiately. If u look at the sword or dagger the prices are not far away from eachother.
The actual worth is the highes amount of gold anyone is willing to pay. If I am willing to pay 120.000g, the worth of that Item is 120.000g and you cannot do anytrhing about it.

I got six precursors so far and will start working towards my my third legendary weapon. Twilight and Bolt for now. I really dont get the problem.
If you do things right, you dont even have to farm, but play the game, while the TP works for you. With a minimal daily effort you can get 20-30g a day from TP and add your ingame drops ontop of that. Whoever goes to orr to farm hours of DE for money has to rethink this boring method of waisting time. If you go there once in a while to farm T6 mats its fully enough.
@duskprice: if there werent people willing and/or able to pay 700g for a precursor, the price would skyrocket into the ground.
Things working fine, ANet. Please dont change anything.
As for casual gamers with 5-10 hours online each week: well, you are not missing anything by not having that weapon. A hobby physicist wont get published in Nature neither.
While I agree with your post in spirit, I do find it funny how you manage to compare a top job requiring vast intelligence to a mere videogame.

Its a metaphore, not a comparision.
I never would measure equally here. Gaming requires way more application.

Btw you are just full of jealousy here. You are jealous enough, that you adviced another guy to just transmute his twilight, as it was 100% safe.
That, dear sir, is remarcably evil. I dont understand why you would want to make somebody feel bad.

No need to get offensive. This is not only off topic but completely unrelated and unnecessary. Please try to stay on the actual topic without being insulting.
As for precursor prices: As long as players are willing to pay that much and arenanet is not in any way showing any interferance it seems like the prices are about right.
You guys forget about one thing. Without RNG Legendary wouldn’t be unique anymore. Everyone playing game long enough would run with one and people had one after playing the game for 2 months. Not even that, majority of the people that complains got their gifts ready and they are only missing precursor.
Sorry but Legendary weapons wouldn’t be what they’re now when half of the GW2 population would run with one. And it’s not like it’s impossible to even get one with the system implemented. You only need to try.“Everyone playing [the] game long enough would run with one…”
So you’re telling me you support a system that no matter how long or hard someone strives to succeed something they may never attain it?
Having lottery level RNG does not make something prestigious. It makes the major end game item a cheapened experience where some are unfairly rewarded for their effort (or lack their of) and others are punished for not being lucky enough.
Once again I am not saying is good or bad. I am saying RNG is a part of a genre. Can you name MMO without RNG? The whole point of a unique item is its uniqueness and that means not everyone can have it/ obtain it. And that is not even true with Legendary. I have played in many MMOs and in some of them you have really had item that were literally impossible to get (Aion for example).
Now if everyone around was running with Legendary would they still maintain its “value”? Would that be still desired by players?I’ll quote Arena Net again: “And if you hate MMO’s you should REALLY try GW2…”
Comparing this game to the bad habits of it’s predecessors is flawed from the start. Instead of just saying how others have had done things worse helps no one. Let’s just address the issue at hand in this game.
And to your last point: RNG does not make something prestigious. If it involved actual skill and/or challenge on an equal level for all those involved I would have no problem with the system. The problem is fairness and fun. And lotteries are neither of those things (except for the VERY small percentage of winners).
There is nothing wrong with small scale RNG (like crit chance) because the level of reward and rarity are both very minor. The median level intended is reached very often and easily. It’s when extremes are used that some people, no matter how much they try and work towards their goal, can seemingly never obtain their goal (speaking in general terms here). And others can be rewarded instantly with potentially no work, effort, or maybe even care involved.
Well compare it to other MMOs. There you usually grind the same RAID instance for months till you get that “cool looking wicked item”. And compete with a dozen others on that drop if rng favors you.
You don’t need to do that in gw2, in fact you can get a legendary nearly 90% of the way solo and in the “worst” case in small groups. So they did infact introduce something new. That you don’t like the prize… well your problem. Its still new aproach. Thanks for quoting my post and then proceeding to completely disregard it.
Actually I responded to your first sentence. Remember you said something about GW2’s marketing campaign of how there would be differences to the usual MMOs. I described how the legedary mechanismn is in fact different than the mechanismns for comparable equipment in other games.

All i wanted to say is that the post above seems to me like an insult. Sorry if i got that wrong but i just think this is exceptionally unneccessary and not adding anyhing to the topic beside you making him look bad.
He is always trolling in precursor/legendary threads.
I’m fine with that, but now he is sabotaging other players items with worth of over 1k gold and several hundred hours of IG-time. Just out of a mood.
In my eyes this is very very bad habit and he should be told that.

As far as i know there is a whisper option in these forums. You can tell him your opinion that way and i believe that public blackmailing is against Arenanets code of conduct. Just watchout because it might result in a warning or even worse a ban.
