Titel says it basicly – how much are people going to pay for a full/exclusive dye collection?
especially with the release F&F dyes which getting more rare every day since there is no supply for them.
Since these dyes are skyrocketing atm in prices i am curious if they hit a wall at some point (e.g. 30g) or they will keep rising.
I paid 32g for one of the F&F dyes before the event ended. It currently sits at 44g.
Now the problem I personally have: I want to use it for myself, but dang what a profit loss if I do!

You can always make money through other methods, so I’d use it.

B-b-b-b-ut… that’s a lot of money to burn!!
I’m also not as good at generating money like you :*(

I’m not sure when it comes to the ones that are already mid-high 40s as to how much higher they go but I don’t see any reason the others don’t join them in price in a month or 2 since the wealthy people generally speaking are just getting wealthier
I’ve never spent more than 10s on a dye and it’s only been recently I’ve started spending anywhere near that much, I used to have a hard cap of 1s for dyes. I’m a total cheapskate when it comes to them.
As much as I wanted the F&F dyes, the fact that they were not account bound was the deciding factor. I cannot justify 30g+ for a single dye for a single character no matter how pretty it is.
I’ve bought all the F&F dyes that were 20g and under for my personal use. Which was 8 of them when I purchased them. I like having as many dyes as possible, and the extra definition and contrast of the F&F dyes makes them worth it for certain gear combos. I just wish there was a way to make dyes account bound instead of character bound.
I paid 30 for a deep glacial sky dye when the price dipped about 14 gold before the event tended.
I picked up all the colors I wanted. Pyre was the first one I wanted, and I got it pretty cheap. Seeing it at 79 is painful.
It seems that in addition to (or maybe because of) the definition and contrast of the F&F dyes, that there is a wider disparity between how the colors look on armor. For example, on Draconic Armor, Flame looks a beautiful red, but on Temple Karma Armor, Flame looks like a sickly pale pink. Molten looks better on the Draconic Armor as well – the best gold armor I’ve seen, as does the Deep Glacial Sky which gets a blue and black Batman kind of look to it. So if you’re changing armors, you could suddenly have a (79 gold) wasted dye…
I havent payed over 1g for a dye, but this was back when 1 gold was alot – which how much white dye was at the time
For me? I wouldn’t pay more than 1g for any dye. I’m not enough of a fashion designer to have a particular specific colour for my armor. If I want a dark colour, and I find that Ash or Ebony looks similar enough to Black or Abyss in giving the same sort of colour scheme, I’ll go with Ash/Ebony.
Imo the most a dye is worth is the price of the cheapest reasonable alternative….ie none of the flame and frost dyes are worth it b/c u can use a 40c dye and get really close to the same color.
I’ll pay up to the price of an unidentified dye for a known one.
the answers in this thread pretty much went the direction i expected.
There are people willing to spend several gold on a single dye because they want this specific dye and there are people who will switch to a cheaper but similar looking dye.
So my conclusion is that there is no real “wall” where people would stop buy dyes, since there is always a fashionista around who will buy the dye – no matter the cost.
i paid 16g for abyss dye, and I doubt ill buy a dye for more than that ever again.
There isn’t any real wall where people stop buying. Everyone has their own point where they’d stop buying, and there are enough buyers with deep pockets to put a very, very long tail on that demand curve.
I personally bought and used all the new F&F dyes the day they were released and do not regret the purchase at all. I do not know where my limit would be; I did not blink at 20g for a dye, and clearly I was not alone.
For the right dyes (ones that glowed, or added particle effects) I have no doubt that the market could support price tags into the hundreds at surprisingly high volumes.
I payed about 6 gold for a gold dye. Pretty much don’t really feel like the armor sets / skins etc are really allowing me to have much of a unique look to my character so there is no point investing in dyes now.
I paid about 20g for Abyss and another 7g for one of the F&F Teal dyes for one of my characters. It was money well spent to have my character look exactly how I want her to look. Heck, I spent tons of gold on armor and weapon skins and that’s cosmetic as well so I may as well spend my gold on dye too. And why not? What else am I spending my gold on? My characters are equipped with exotic armor and weapons, with the runes and skins I want, I’ve upped my bag and bank slots, so what more do I really need with the gold I’ve gathered?
My feeling is that people who want a complete set of dyes, and people like myself who accumulate gold and already have their ‘needs’ fulfilled for their characters will spend their gold on what they ‘want’. Heck, people spend $40 US dollars on Southsun RNG crates just for the chance at so-so weapon/armor skin (according to posts in this forum anyway), so why wouldn’t someone spend in-game gold on an awesome dye.
I put my money were my mouth is and I spent a little over 100g on F&F dyes and am sitting on 9 of them in my bank right now. Since I don’t need the gold right now, they will likely remain there and collect dust until they become even more exclusive or until I decide to roll a new character and want to use one.
I bought Pyre when it was 3g, and look akitten now…
I should’ve bought a stack when I had the chance. :/
Well 2 weeks later, it seems the answer is people will pay at least 100g. Where it peaks will be interesting.
Yea, I put one of my F&F dyes up a few days ago when I saw the availability drop and it sold for just under 60g after fees.
Another question; what does it take for a “decent” dye to drop in the first place?! Good lord…
Well apparently people will pay a lot! As of right now the very limited quantity of Flame and Frost dyes are disappearing from the TP and driving prices way up. People are either snapping up their favorites before they are gone forever, or someone is flexing their bank and making a long-term investment in dyes.
Dyes can be used by anyone, applied to any armor item, and used over and over again. It makes sense that these would be a good investment. I only wish I had the gold to snap them all up. :/
It’s pretty obvious that someone(s) is/are playing the market right now and buying up all the F&F dyes.

I did both. I sold everything I owned and bought 8 dyes for myself and 8 dyes for investment. I couldn’t afford all 12 at the time.
I’m glad I did. The colors are much more defined and now much rarer then anything else. If you want to have those colors now is probably the time to get them before they are gone forever.
I picked out the one F&F dye I liked on my character and bought it for myself, and then I spent the 100 gold I had been saving up for a Commander hat and spent it on 9 F&F dyes. So far I’ve put one of those dyes on the market and it sold for a return of roughly 60g into my bank. I’ve got two more dyes on the TP now and if they sell I will have doubled my money on just 3 of the 9 dyes.
I’d like to thank whomever is “manipulating” the dyes. Going to at least quadruple my investment. Helps to make up for my stupid SAB purchases :P
I’m making bank on these FF dyes, but unfortunately in my surveying of dye prices I fell in love with a few of the more expensive FF dyes I don’t have and am paying out the nose for a couple (They really look amazing on heavy armor btw… something I didn’t notice at first since my main is an ele).
And yes, there is some monopolizing going on, but given the low, low supply remaining that really is to be expected. You are going to have to pay an arm and a leg if you ever want a chance of getting a dye at this point.

Paid no more than 20g for any of the flame n frost dyes, felt bad paying that much. I’m sure tons of people are paying 100g+ to use the dyes….
The F&F dyes went north of my price range before the packs were gone from the store. There’s only one left that I want anyway, so no great loss.
Any other color I’d rather gather the materials myself and try crafting (I do about 1 rare grey dye recipe per week just as a background activity) than pay more than 1 gold for.
