What happened to the good days where I was gauranteed at least 1 ectoplasm per rare salvage! Somebody please explain Arenanet’s motive to nerf ecto salvage rate wasn’t just to pi(X)s s off the playerbase.

I think I see a thread like this almost every day.

It’s not nerfed, you’re just using way too small a sample.

Increase your sample by 1000 and you’ll see.

The good old days where you were guaranteed an ecto never existed.

I had the opportunity to perform 50 salavages in a row on the exact same rare and the conclusion was pretty clear:

25% chance of 0
25% chance of 1
25% chance of 2
25% chance of 3

I’ve personally experienced runs of 12 cracks with nothing to show for it – but those runs are INEVITABLE at the number of rares I’m cracking. My lifetime average is virtually dead on for the 1.5 per rare average you’d expect.

Salvaging should always return at least one ecto. The reward should be there, even if its small. But, it won’t be because the previous economy need pampering.

You need a much larger sample size. Sometimes I salvage 3 rares and get 9 ecto’s and other times I salvage 3 rares and get 0 ecto’s. You need a sample of about 100+ rares to be somewhat accurate. Master Salvage kits generally returns 1 to 1. On average you’ll get 1 ecto per rare.

Anything below 1000 salvages isn’t reliable in my book. You need numbers to even out.

I did a test with 200 salvages and then one with 500 salvages. I got an ecto for about 90% of the rares. Im about to try a 1000 salvage test to see how the drops are. Chances are, you just had a bad streak.

After salvaging 1000 rares, i got 904 ectos. Take this info however you like.

I don’t salvage anymore, unless the rare/exotic is account bound.

You pretty much just hit a bad streak. I’ve had it, and I’m sure others have. The problem is that its happens TOO frequent compared to the past. I use to hit a bad streak (10+ salvage with 0-1 Ecto) about once a week, now its about 3 times a week.

I just sell my exotics. 2g = 8 ectos.
Unless the rune/sigil is worth a significant amount then I mighty salgae it.

They’re long gone. Nowadays you need to choose to like math or you will never even get introduced to the concept. And even then, you don’t need to understand it, as you can just use a calculator to solve the probabilities for your.

At least that’s the situation in high schools in my nation.

And of course there’s the fact that people tend to misinterpret percentages. Rather than taking them as an after-the-fact realization, people will interpret then as an a priori guarantee of getting at least that much out of it.
