Elder Wood - Speculation or Scarcity
GW2Spidy’s graphs are very misleading here. If you hover over the actual dates, you’ll see that there’s actually a 30-hour gap in time on either side of that “jump” – the actual changes were not as sudden as the graph makes them seem.
This data gap gives the appearance of a huge jump in the prices of quite a lot of other commodities – see, for example, Silk Scraps:

It’s to be expected that Elder Wood would increase substantially in price:
- The supply is more limited than for lower-tier mats, but it was cheaper.
- It is required for crafting some highly-demanded items.
Frankly, I’m surprised it took this long and that the price is still relatively low.
I didn’t realize they had a data break. That makes more sense. I just thought a sudden spike like that could only be explained by someone dumping the 3k gold into the market and buying all the wood which seems very risky.
The supply isn’t actually more limited than Seasoned, which has been 40-50c for a while now.

Orichalcum should be higher.
