Endless Monkey King Tonic Now common drop
Market conditions change all the time. It was rare before and now can drop from bosses. There’s been no change in supply on the market, just speculators getting out ASAP while potential buyers are lowering their asking price.
As for those who bought it when it as a rare chest drop, it’s tough to be on the bleeding edge. When CD/DVD/Blu-ray players first came out they cost hundreds of dollars. Now Blu-ray are like $70 and connect to Netflix and Hulu now over wireless.
RIP City of Heroes
It’s a tonic, an item drop. It’s not obtained from the gem shop/cash shop- if it were & were somehow changed then I can see a compensation happening, but that’s not the case. The tonic should have been a common drop in the 1st place. People who would spend such a massive amount of gold maybe should rethink their decisions before investing in such a tonic, it’ll become a common drop sooner or later. IMO it shouldn’t have been set so pricey.

As I was saying …
RIP City of Heroes
I feel bad to quote a PvP Game Designer, he has nothing to do with this issue, but…

The rest of arenanet doesnt follow these principles?
Yeah, I learned long ago to never waste money on grossly expensive things like that because Anet flipflops things all the time like that. Also the item wasn’t even worth the price unless it at least had brawl skills or let you fight in that form.
Though I didn’t pay any attention to the Monkey King when it was black lion only, seeing the note in today’s patch notes made me think.. OUCH! I had no idea it was even selling on the trading post… I can only hope that players didn’t spend a lot of real dollars on keys to get one,
I have no idea how this could even be compensated for. The flame kissed armor was at least something that could be changed or refunded and had no RNG associated with it. This is really a bad deal for people involved with the item.

Er, I’m sure they still ask that question for a lot of things. I’m also sure that sometimes their answer is “Yep, they’ll quit but it is what it is.” In risk assessment, you identify losses and label them as acceptable or unacceptable and act accordingly. So, yeah, you try to minimize loss where you can and accept loss in others. While it is curious that they moved an item from the Black Lion chest to the loot drop table in game, I don’t find it surprising that they made this sort of move. Is the difference between this situation and say, precursor crafting, that they didn’t give anyone a heads up? Should Anet always inform players of upcoming changes affecting the economy?
They should. At least buy orders can be cancelled before the flood of supplies.
I think it’s good there are now other ways to obtain it.
Now they just need to do the same to the 4000g+ legendary contract… errr… I mean the permanent hair style contract.
I undestand you completely nanael, its arenanet’s policy to stealing us, as long as there are “lickers” to support arenanet. The fact that over the 60% of the users abandoned the game proves everything. I am one of them ofc. I play this Crap Wars 2 because of Eternity, Kasmeer’s Staff and Amor (items that won contest to be in the game) I will remind some simple things of what kind of pathetic members are in arenanet. When Mesmers for example announed that will be in the game, the first trailers showed that “Veil” last for 20 seconds and not for 2 secs that is in the game. Countess Anise armor was also playable in the videos, Megan Fox preset was also playable in the first betta. The above were some of the main reasons i got the game. But after that I will NOT buy GW3 ofc. The worst thing that we can do to arenanet so they must learn to behave and dont mess with the serious users(gamers) is that what I do: 1. Never spend your real money to arenanet, 2. Whoever asks you about gw2 tell them the truth that is the bigest crap of all time and everything in it are stolen from other games, 3. Abandon the game and dont play serious in it because arenanet is not serious. I wish i had the oportunity for full contanct fight with ther headmaster of arenanet, but he or she is a chicken and a morron as those who will insult me because i insult crap wars 2 but i dont give a kitten about them. Instead of doing morronics updates, make the game friendly to casual players because we dont want challenge all the time, many of us we are not idiots like the lickers. And above all make the fractal weapon skins sellable. Now you all understand why this crap wars 2 has been ranked with 3/10. And last but not least, they humiliated the myth of Monkey King…
evevos, epic rant
Started out with some truth, but ended it with vitriol and falsehoods.
I so far as the tonic goes, I’m not sure if this should be an in game drop
Edit – Continuing from this thought from last night.
I don’t have an issue with this tonic going from a Very rare BL exclusive drop to a rare drop in game. In fact my belief is that every item in the BL chests should be obtainable in game. I feel only a little bad for collectors who spent hundreds of gold on obtaining this tonic. Hey, it was a gamble that A-net would keep it ultra rare. A gamble that you lost. It happens.
My issue is that this tonic is wildly out of place in the land of Tyria. As another forum user said, it’s the equivalent of making an A.R.E.N.A. Commando tonic, which is wildly out of place. Sure, there might be some lore associated with it, but it’s so fringe that it becomes almost alien.
One may make the argument that “the Monkey King” may have a in-game folklore equivalent in Cantha … but that’s Cantha (which is not accessible in GW2), not some dusty wasteland on the continent of Tyria. It just does not make sense why it is in game.
Correction: It just does not make sense why it is in game – other than a tip of the hat to our players from China.
and that’s fine … but it should have been something that stayed exclusive to the china servers.

There are descendents of Canthan refugees in Divinity’s Reach though. Could easily be a tradition/folktale passed down. Doesn’t bother me personally that it’s in the game. Now those hideous quaggan hat things … -shudder-

Don’t forget Humans aren’t from Tyria. The Six Gods brought them here.

except cantha is a part of the gw2 universe, and descendents still live in tyria. You seem to be a bit xenophobic in game terms. you do realize people have been throwing weapons at an african equivalent djinn since release? The world of gw2 is bigger than you think.
Hold up there. There’s a Major difference.
The djinn are in Elona and elsewhere (introduced with Nightfall). So, apparently the world of gw2 is bigger than you think as well.
There is no reference to the Monkey king anywhere in the lore of Factions. It is a piece of beloved real world folklore that was introduced to the game without any previous connection, or attempt to ret-con or explain its existence.
And please be careful with the Xenophobic accusation (in game terms, or not). It’s offensive and without merit on any level.
common? why is it still expensive on tp?
