Goodmorning everyone,

I have a dozen of exotic items in my chest and I was wondering when, in your opinion, I should salvage or sell them. For example, I always sold exotic with a value of 1g or more, while I salvaged exotic with a value minor than 1g.
Is that a good choice?

For me it comes down to the value of the rune inside the exotic. If it’s worth substantially less than the exotic, I sell the item. If it’s worth substantially more, I use a black lion kit (save them from your dalies for this). That way you get free ecto’s+dark matter + the more expensive rune back.

If the rune isn’t worth much and the exotic isn’t worth much either… then I would probably sell it unless you need the dark matter. Iirc on average you get somewhere between 2-3 ectos per exotic (if anyone has the exact average I would love to know).

Right now, most of the exotic weapons are very cheap because there is an oversupply of crafted ones from everybody leveling his crafts to 500.
If you are talking about crafted exotics, 1g value is a good decider, especially, if you still need dark matter.
If you are talking about other exotics, make sure to check the sigil, which is on the weapon, sometimes they are worth more than 50-100s. Then it would definately make more sense to salvage them because with the value of the sigil, plus the ectos and ori/wood you get, you might get more money back than selling it directly for 1.1g for example.

The last exotic I salvaged only gave me 1 Orichalcum Ore.

If you can’t take the risk and time to wait for the RNG to even out then yes you certainly should TP.

And what about use 4 of them in the mystic forge?

I currently salvage my exotics. This because I am currently trying to craft ascended and need the mats that are only found in the exotics.

most of my found exotics get sold on the TP
some (the ones with valuable sockets) get considered for salvaging. if the average salvage yields more than just selling it, I salvage it
account bound exotics I get (and dungeons who’s tokens can’t be used to buy 68+ rares so I buy exotics instead) get thrown into the MF, then the exotic that comes out gets sold on the TP.

^This. On some items with expensive runes, salvaging off one ecto + the rune will net you a profit right there. I got all the dark matter needed for four ascended weapons by spending only about 2g. If I waited with buy orders and sell orders I may have been able to profit, but I’m too impatient for that :P

And to your question, it’s 1.25 ectos/salvage average for rares, 2 for exotics with a BLSK if I recall correctly.

also, keep in mind that Black Lion Salvage Kits currently cost 60s per salvage (at 5g=100 gems). so the socket needs to be very valuable to make it worth it to use over Master Salvage Kit (like >3g), or you might get them for free and not have to worry about that.

if you salvage solider, rabid, dire and such weapons, you also get get a chance for the inscription as well
