What is the most efficient way to make gold without farming? I have considered crafting materials, but I don’t know any sort of efficient strategy to make money.

Technically flipping is farming of sorts…

Not farming is the best way to gather money since most big rewards are tied to daily/weekly/monthly chests. By not farming I can easily get 10 ecto, 2 gold and a laurel in about 2 hours max. If I’d have to farm, I might get 3-4 gold in that timeframe but at the cost of my sanity. I don’t have much sanity left after years of WoW.

Get the list of daily bonus chests and do each of those events each 24 hour period. You will get guaranteed rare (or better) items that you can sell or convert to ectos/rune/sigils and you’ll get the fun of doing things with the community on your server.

Personally, I have to organize the Fire Shaman runs because no one even seems to know about him.
