Hi everyone (devs especially)

This “discount on past event items in gem store” promotion for March is very exciting. I thought I would give you a suggestion for one of the days that I guarantee will sell well. The Gas mask skin from the nightmare tower living world event (which is fitting anyway with the whole current miasma theme).

Personally I missed the event by 11 days (I was on a break during that time period) and I know many, many other players would love to get their hands on either a second one for an alt character, or their first one as they missed it during the event as well.

Just give us one more chance to get it before it’s lost to the depths of the limited edition event items

As a player that did get it and spent a few days doing event to get it I would rather it not. Kinda makes my accomplishment meaning less. If however they put it back in with the Ls and you had to work for it then hell yeah. I hope everyone gets one then. But taking something that I worked for and making it a cash shop item seems wrong. Am I wrong here? I would love to get me a dragon helm that I missed, but I can’t. I would not want it in the cash shop if it was a earned item for others.

First, the suggestions forum is closed. We are instead asked to make suggestions in their relevant forums – gem store would likely be in the Black Lion Trading Co forum.

Second, the sales going on each day of March are not past event items, it is a sale on current items as well as on some past items that were available only in the gem store which may also have had a tie-in to what happened to be going on in LS event at the time; Rox’s Bow, Marjory’s Daggers, Braham’s Hammer or whatever his weapon is, old infinite use tools maybe.

I do not think you can expect past event only meta reward items to be in the gem store. As it is, it is nearly impossible to get one of the previous event items (like the jet pack) from the super 1,200 civilians saved bags.

I think they should put it in the slot-machine boxes with like a 25% chance of getting it. It’s just a gas mask… big freaking deal. I can get them off the trading post for a gold on Tarnished Coast.

Oh dang.. there goes that sense of accomplishment. :P

I’d just like to point out that the Gas Mask was not tradeable and was account bound on acquire as the meta reward for the Tower of Nightmares and was a one-time use item. This means your statement of getting it from the trading post for a gold is false. Also, how specifying your server matters in this statement eludes me as the trading post is shared by all game servers and is not a different TP for each server.

I’d love it to be more available and have no problem with more people getting access to a really nice skin. Mine’s rotting in my bank because once used it’s locked in to one armor weight and thus isn’t transferable (maybe the Splitter would help, I haven’t touched those because they sound too likely to mess something up and lose the skin I want to keep).

You can’t buy it on the TP on any server (not that it makes sense to mention your server, the TP is global). It was an event item, non-tradeable. Which means it won’t be in the gem store sales as it never was a gem store item. I’m mostly hoping for a huge QoL change to wardrobes that turn skins into something reusable for all alts on the account in perpetuity, a la Zenith. You only play one alt at a time, what harm in being able to display the skin on whichever you are on?

As a fellow Tarnished Coast player I can confirm that, no, you cannot get the gas mask in question from the trading post. I think you may be thinking of a different item available from the same update which was basically a land version of the aqua breathers in game. The gas mask they’re referring to was a special reward from the Toxic Alliance update.

As someone who knew about the gas mask ahead of time thanks to following updates on the site, counted down the days till the update and then painstakingly slogged through the god awful Nightmare Tower over and over until I got my mask, I do agree that I would prefer not to see it be made available for purchase. I do feel that to do such would cheapen the value of the item for those of us who worked for it, especially since it hasn’t been that long since the item was originally made available.

That said, I’m all for giving people the opportunity to get old rewards. The Escape From Lion’s Arch patch has done that to some extent, albeit with high rarity and difficulty, but that’s the sort of thing I feel like one should expect when chasing after bygone achievements. I don’t mind the idea of people having ways to obtain these items, but I would hate to see them slapped up on the gem store and become, essentially, entirely meaningless to those of us who fought for them.

maybe an extra 20 seconds to escape LA or something..

just seems funny that it is simply a cosmetic headgear when it obviously should have the functions of a gasmask

Offering achievement rewards in the gemshop would be a new low for this game.

Between what it looks like I’ve started here, and certain current world events, I think world war 3 is imminent, everyone dig a hole to live in.

No I’m only kidding, don’t get the shovels just yet.

On a more serious note, I completely understand where jmt.8517 and many others are coming from when they say that an item that was worked for should not be so easily obtained at a later date. It literally makes the item worthless, which, now that I think about it, is actually not what I want. Perhaps a way to work it into the current event as another achieve reward, or something a bit more difficult like a rare boss drop. I think it would be nice as it is still relevant to this event, it will still require work to achieve, it will ultimately still end up as a limited edition item, and best of all, it will give players some more opportunity to get a skin that is loved by everyone (if you’ve made something so good, give it a little more attention than one living world event reward).

Having said all this, at the end of the day, it is understandable if they want to keep it in the past, and if I had one now, I would probably be on the other side of the boat, saying “if you’re going to make it available again, at least make it hard to get”.

To me this feels like asking your friends to reenact something funny that happened at a party you missed because you wish you had been there.

It’s fundamentally better for some things to be “had to be there.” That’s what makes being there fun.

I spent time to get as well but I have no problem making it available again. In fact I liked it so much that it is the only PvE event I have done. I currently have it on my guardian and would love for a way to get one for my thief, necro, ele ect…

It’s not worthless if people have to pay real cash for it. Count me as one that would love to get my hands on this. I skipped that LS garbage because I didn’t enjoy it one bit. Not that I wasn’t capable of doing. I would like a chance at that skin, ty.

If you recall, at the same time as the gas mask was a new healing skill, specific to poisons….it’s either 25 or 30 skill points. Drops poison conditions…not attached to the gas mask but released at the same time.

After slogging through that kitten tower, I don’t want the gas mask easily attainable. That tower was one of the toughest friggin’ things ever and frustrating as all get out, I don’t want to see what took me a week to finish placed on a shelf for 1000 gems.

As someone who does have the Gas Mask, I honestly would not be upset if other avenues were introduced for players to obtain the skin for themselves if they missed Tower of Nightmares. I’m a big believer in everybody being able to obtain the “look” they want. Maybe not through the gem store (that does smack a bit of “money grabbing”), but if ANet ever introduced a “flashback” guild mission where you could run through the Tower of Nightmares again, I think having the Gas Mask drop as a rare skin from the end chest would be fair.

I have the gas mask and dont want pepole to get it from GEM store (Its like PTW a event item…).

I have one and would love to have another. I wouldn’t mind other people that didn’t have a chance to get one for free to pay for one with gems. I still got one for free, so why not.

I used to post a request for previous meta rewards in the arc finale, but with second to none player responses all we got was a horny helm which really makes us feel and look like true Heroes of Lion’s Arch. /sarcasm

Maybe if people care to come and bump that thread, we may have a chance at those for March 18 epilogue.

kittening ninja^^ /joke I think we as the players need to unite and ALL mention/participate in the posts relating to the changes we want to see in the game.

Keep posting here guys. All opinions are valued and welcome, whether you think it should not become available again, like many have expressed, or whether you think it would be good to give others another chance at such a great item
