Q:
Gem Store Armor might not dye right
Yeah I noticed how certain parts of the dyable areas don’t exactly match the dye color. Sometimes it’s a shade lighter or a shade darker.
But don’t trust the preview armor, sometimes you need to actually equip the item and dye and visually inspect it in game.

FYI dye is not just a simple palette swap, it will mix with the shading effects on the armor. Different armor sets have different effects. Mixing pieces from different sets will almost always produce some color differences, and when you have a very dark set vs a very light set then, as you discovered, they will look nothing alike when used with the same dye. You can work around this by using different dyes on each set to compensate and bring them closer together in appearance.
I have noticed that. But this piece is so far outside the color as to be unattractive. If I had gotten it from a drop it would not be a big deal but I had spent gems to get it. This post is more of a warning for others who might have their characters colors all decided on.
Just think twice and realize that you are taking a gamble. Unless of course I missed the way to preview a dye on the article before purchasing it?
I think the inner onces are suppose to be lace like and lighter.. but my dyes always look pretty accurate on mine— I suppose a tad lighter?
I still really like the armor though :P
I agree with the dye issues. The dark dyes just show up way too light.
Of course, the light dyes are awesome, but I prefer my necromancer to look, well, dark.
All the gem store skins show up in the pvp armor locker. You can test out the dyes there before you decide to buy the armor. I’ve noticed the midnight dyes show up really washed out on the profane armor. No problems with the krytan armor on my leather wearers.

Yeah, i was looking at the same set and wondering why abyss and black dyes come out as almost light grey..
It seems broken to me. I thought all armors were going to take dye in the same manner. Most colors are washed out, lacking any brilliance.
Trying to match armor mixing is close to impossible -I suggested to all in my guild to avoid purchasing this skin and do so to any here.
I have had the same problem. The worst part is as Lolicia pointed out you can preview the armor with dye at the Gem Store. While viewing it at the Gem Store the dye’s preview properly. Then when you equip the armor and try to dye it…it does not reflect the proper dye. I bought (2) sets of dye and armor…not happy.
Can’t post a pic now but the primeval was really awful. It seemed to me the intent was to take this GW1 armor and mimic the bad way GW1 dyed armor. I was trying to pair the helmet with T1 cultural shoulders (spikey), and simply couldn’t get a match.
For example, abyss is abyssmal. It comes out gray. A dark red comes out…sort of green. Anything medium or below on the horns came out looking like celestial. Yuck. Loved the armor skin, but the dye was bad.
