As these tools cost 1000 Gems each. For someone who has multiple characters its annoying switching them between my various characters (8 of them).

My suggestion is that once the tool is bought, they behave something like the “Zenith skins” under the achievement tab. Where once the skin is unlock you can withdraw one and apply it to any of your characters.

So in essence you will be withdrawing your gem store tool to any character.

For that feature, expect the price to rise to at least 8,000 gems.

1k gems is more than enough, I’ll pass.

That would cause the price to increase again (already went from 800 to 1000 gems when made account bound). They would also have to issue refunds for duplicates (well, they could probably justify only refunding duplicate skins like two bone picks, but no refund for one bone pick and one molten pick). I don’t think they will change these tools again. I’ve had no issue switching them, just do a little banking in between characters if you’re on harvesting runs.

Yeah, I haven’t bought a single one of these since I run 8 characters and buying them for all is way too expensive. Making it duplicatable once bought would solve it.

Buying new mithril and orichalcum tools offers a major gold sink for the game, helping to suppress the inevitable process of inflation. Paying $12.50 for an unlimited use tool puts a little change in NCsoft’s pockets, but also risks a small upset in the game economy. Making the item universal between all characters increases the magnitude of the problem.
My suggestion is to simply put 3 unlimited tools on the single character you are most comfortable with in PvE and have that one serve as a “Designated Gatherer” for your account. This one can be used to kite about maps hitting all the gathering nodes to farm up materials, while the others are only lightly equipped with disposable tools so if one should encounter something like a tier 6 node one can collect it without risk of missing it later.
This would allow you to gather using mostly your unlimited tools while avoiding the tediousness of switching. Ultimately though, I think making tools like skins across the account is a questionable design decision in a game with an economy.

The merchant bought tools don’t offer a major goldsink. The sink is so tiny it’s almost non-existant. The 1000 gems tools on the other hand are a massive goldsink because many people buy gems with gold.

Buying gems with money to equip 8 chars of all 8 professions would cost about 288 euros.

Buying it with gold would be a bad investment since you’re not going to make back that amount. 36000 gems that is.

So people buy a pick, maybe the others and then just swap them between characters. I myself only have the one pick because I mostly hit the rocks. I swap them between chars.

I’m not going to buy any more of them… unless I get a discount.

Like the first pick is 1000, the second is 500, the third 250, then 125, then 75, etc. For identical ones. It gives a cool discount and rewards frequent buyers.

Yeah that will happen in say………. NEVER.

I don’t know why but in someways I feel the way they do some of the gem store purchases are idk….poorly executed. This coming from someone who owns all the mining tools, the salvage tool and all the BL harvest nodes, skins ect ect.

Lets be real here, $10 isn’t a lot of money…if spent on things one needs in life…..when you start talking about $10-20 items in the gem store I start to consider these as premium items….and anet dose not treat them as premium items, meaning they are bugged, poorly designed, clip (armor skins) or stop working properly for a length of time (copper fed salvage-a-matic)..give piddly amounts of return value (gathering nodes could have at least been Rich nodes)

Point is they are not about giving us “value” in the gem store, its about making money and offering you shinies and trinkets they hope you will like. Asking for prices to be reduced is something you would do at a yard sale, and I would be surprised if anet was even receptive to the idea. One could only ever hope I guess.

I current have 3 sets (plus an extra pick). The price is worth the convenience of never running out in the middle of a zone and having several free inventory slots.

I’d love it if there was a way to make them usable on all characters, but I’m sure it would be unrealistically expensive. As it stands, I can outfit one toon at a time at a price I can afford (if I want them).

I have SIX sets of unlimited tools. All bought purely for the convenience of never having to swap them between characters.

I wouldn’t mind them being changed so they are automatically applied to all characters, but you can bet I’d be demanding a gem refund if that were the case.

I have 4 sets of the unlimited tools. Only 1 set usually gets juggled, and that’s to low levels that I’m building. The other 3 sets are pretty static on characters that I commonly farm with.

Yes, it’s a little bit of a hassle, but that’s the incentive they use to sell more sets. They aren’t going to remove that.
