So I want to make a new toon and buy an armor skin form the gem store and use it from lv1 to 80 but from asking around it would seem that every time I got a new piece of armor I would have to buy a transmutation stone/crystals just to keep using the skin I had already paid for, can someone confirm this to be the case because that is kittening ridiculous if true.

After using the skin once, you’ll need to use a transmutation stone (green rarity) before level 80 and a transmutation crystal (yellow rarity) at level 80 to transfer the skin to another piece. Transmutation stones can be obtained as a random reward from completing zones, though not at a rate to continuously skin your gear every few levels.

Transmutation stones are relatively common, you can get them by map completions. I’ve never bought any and I have 75. True, 75 isn’t enough if you are upgrading your armor every few levels.
