You can’t nickel and dime people at $10 a pop. While i’m no economist, at the end of the day a $20 taco, is still just a taco.
But now, every time you come home from work, just open the oven and out pops 1 taco. How convenient!

Except for the fact that those tacos are in the basement. And we have tacos here on main floor

Yeah but $20 you can get a taco a day! HAHA
That comparison might work if it was $2000 for a taco a day, and only for as long as you have that specific oven.
Personally I think this is exactly the sort of thing they should have in the gem store.
It’s useful enough that some people will buy it, quite likely with real money and therefore give Anet (and yes NCSoft) enough money to keep the game running. But it’s also useless enough that no one should feel pressured to buy it if they don’t want to because all it means is you have to go to an open-world map instead of the home instance to farm, no big deal.
It’s a great way of making money without giving paying players an unfair advantage.
Whether you personally think it’s worth getting is up to you. I thought the infinite gathering tools weren’t worth it when the first came out, but changed my mind not long after and now I wouldn’t be without them. I doubt I’ll get this now, but down the line maybe I’ll change my mind again.

But then again there’s Taco Bell and Jack-in-a-box right across the street from your home instance.
The game needs to make money in order to survive.
and they keep doing so in a pathetic “slap your loyal customers in the face” kinda way. well, I guess when financials keep dropping, it’s only feasible to spend development dollars on cheap and cheesy items and content.

Hm?
How are they slapping me and others like me in the face?
Because they release things you personally don’t like?
i haven’t used it but based on the ‘Candy Corn Node’ which yields about 10 pieces daily, you’d be making about ~20s a day in mats (which are currently borderline useless except for maybe upgraded to the next tier.) So this little ‘gem’ of an item should pay for itself after, roughly, 400 days of continual use. go ahead and spring for the unlimited mining pick and, after 4.5 years you will have ‘free and unlimited’/time-gated copper, silver, and gold that you can do all kinds of nifty things with like craft level 5-60 trinkets (fine print: pebbles, lumps, and nuggets sold seperately)
Protip:
Hold on to those lower gemstones.
;)

I’m sorry you don’t understand the bigger picture. oh well, have a great day!

No, I am genuinely interested, so please, inform me.

Idkwtf he’s talkin about..
But the rest of us want cheaper tacos
with more toppings.
Its NOT about how they want you to buy these items with money, it’s about the fact that the pricing is not matching up with the current inflation.
Last I checked, the price of a gem has not changed.
pre-pav 800 gems was 25g. Now its 67g. Its just not justifiable now to keep charging 800 gems for minor things. Even a blc key is now 10g.
Ah, there’s your problem. You’re looking at the GOLD price instead of the actual price of Gems. There is no gem inflation. You are SUPPOSED to support the game by BUYING gems. The ability to transfer gold for gems is a BONUS.
I personally think there are quite a few overpriced gemstore items.
The new ore nodes package would take, like other players have calculated, over 2 years mining the ores daily, just to make their money back – is that really worth it? Not to me.
The dye packages are much the same. I’ve heard of people getting the 5 packs and just getting blue and green rarity dyes – now THAT would be disappointing. Too much RNG, no guaranteed reward. Bad.
Metabolic Primer – who would pay so much money for this thing? Really, not much benefit for its price. Just buy tons of the same food and learn to look at a clock every now and then to see when the foods timer has nearly run out – problem solved.
Mask of the wanderer skin – 500 gems for something you can barely see? I previewed this on my elementalist and it wouldn’t even show because of his hair, and even on other races of mine which hardly had any hair, it was barely noticeable for its price tag. Overpriced. Should be more like 200 gems – if that.
Most boosters costing 150 gems each – why bother when you can just farm black lion keys on mules, or obtain via other means? And swimming boosters for 75 gems? Really? 1) who spends a ton of time swimming? and 2) if you’re going to make it worth your while, make it a 33% faster speed MINIMUM. 15% is an absolute joke. For 75 gems too, I’d expect it to last for more than an hour.
Overpriced items like the above examples make me not want to buy them, but that’s fine with me :-P it means I can save my gems for something I will truly like and be something that is actually worth my while.

They probably pre-emptively put it out there to mitigate the over inflation of Silver and Gold Ore once the new crafting hits the streets, but I don’t see it being worthwhile since those nodes can be farmed easily (unlike cloth). So even if price went up it would have to be significant to even make those worth it.
Currently you get about 3 ores from those nodes, so about 7.5s per character. If you have the starting 5 it’s about 37.5s/day So 213 days of minig to break even. But prices are probably gonna go up.
I don’t think it’s per character, I think it’s per account, so that means a total of 9 ores per day. I think someone calculated it on reddit – would take at least 2 years of mining daily to make your money back.

In that case nevermind. I hardly go to my home instance and one node isn’t even worth it.
I think if they were RICH nodes, I’d reconsider, but since it isn’t, I’m not even touching that node package with a 10 foot pole.

It seems they dont care about making money at all with the stuff which has come out.
A Node to make at your home town location…. its consumable which means destoryed… Most of us use Lions Arch as a home base… not Divinity or any of the other Home locations.
That black lion combo pack for 1600 gems… that is also another bag of LOLZ…
LOLZ to the person who packaged it and thought it would be a cool seller at the Cash Shop.
LOLZ to the person who wants to buy it.
LOLZ to the people who actually bought it.

Exactly! Players should be glad that nothing sold in the gem store gives them an edge over another player. The gem store is full of things that people want, but don’t actually need. The ore nodes baffle me, because if I want ore, I’ll go to a map and farm it and receive much more than a home instance node would give me. You’re better off converting those gems to gold.
Speaking as someone who’s bought the Common Metals node, I bought it mainly because I like padding out my Home Instance with as much stuff as possible. It’s also extra Copper/Silver/Gold ore every day, which I have a strong suspicion will be needed in large quantities for r500 Jeweler, so I’m stocking up now. Not to mention you can also get Pebbles/Nuggets/Lumps from the nodes, and my mule already has a Molten Pick for harvesting, so why not?
