Gemstore update - dyes, nodes, food extenders
Sheesh, Food extender. That’s hardly convinient, you’ll still have to click the food and watch the timer to keep it ongoing.
Where’s my fridge i can throw a stack of food into and it auto consumes?
Woohoo, more dyes. Thanks AN!
Amenity is clearly the favourite, it’s double the price or more of the rest.

When the timer is 12 hrs long you really don’t have to be that worried about watching the clock. I think this is a pretty useful item.

Ya it’s ok. I hoping a food extender would of been implimented in a permanent 1 time purchase way. It is useful, but not what i want to spend my gems on.
So with GW2spidy numbers
1 copper ore = 40c
1 gold ore = 1s20c
1 silver ore = 50c
2.10*3=6.3s a day.
Current gem price puts the price to buy the nodes at about 62g.
620000/630=984 days to break even. Same as with the gathering tools; they’re convenience. Would’ve liked if they were Rich nodes.
only useful when your buffood 50+ silver
150gems = 12g
are this nodes 1x per character or account?
are this nodes 1x per character or account?
Once per account, I believe; same as the standing nodes. Confident enough in this that I’m not going to buy them and test. <_<
I’m not a fan of these new dyes tbh, in my own personal opinion I think they’re kinda fugly :-/ and with the ore nodes, even if you mine them daily, that’s 1095 copper, silver and gold each year. It’s not worth it to me, considering the price tag of 800 gems/60g. If they were perhaps rich ore nodes I’d reconsider. Would be good for daily gatherer if they were rich nodes.
Nothing for me to spend my gems on this update. Will wait for something that tickles my fancy.
It should have been herbs. They always in need.
Bought the ore pack, yes not worth it in terms of cost / benefit. But I love the convenience <3.
The ore pack’s price would be IMO justified much better if these were rich nodes, especially given the low worth of low-level ore.
Tarnished Coast
Huge waste of 800 gems. Would have been a decent item if it had any of the other materials, iron, platinum ect. This makes me worried about future permanent free items and utilities since Arenanet’s plan is to gemstore everything new with unreasonable prices.
Perhaps these materials i.e Copper/Silver/Gold maybe expected to raise in value in near future, making it a better looking deal than it looks now, just a speculation

Ripoff. Maybe if it was all the metals I’d buy it.
Expect the prices of these precious metal nodes to shoot up to near linen and silk prices when jeweler reaches 500. The addition of these nodes is to help mitigate the inflation since they’re not that common out in the world and aren’t salvaged very often.
If speculation on these metals is correct, you may be able to make a return on your investment faster than you assume.
I don’t see the point in the node pack (and steroids while we’re at it).
One can get that amount of ore and even more in 5 minutes or less using conventional means (shocking, right).
Soon people will be too lazy to even mine nodes in their instances so we’ll be getting the ore via mail system. -_-
If the food booster was permanent I would buy it. But as it is now, it is only worth it for foods that are 50s+, which is pretty much none of them.
Dyes are always nice. I wish they would add a few obtainable in-game though. We haven’t had any new dyes introduced in the actual game. they all go straight to the gem store.
Ore pack is convenience, though I suspect since this one is titled “basic” that there will be an advanced and supreme pack, which will give you access to all 6 tiers of ore eventually. The Ori one may be worth it when its released.
I previewed the dyes on dulfy, so a bit of detail may have been lost in the screenshot, but they look like dyes that already exist, or they’re 1 RGB point from an existing one.
Why do people pay 50g+ for stuff like this? At least the flame and frost and other recent dyes have had interesting contrast settings that makes them stand out.
I don’t mind if the new dyes go to the gem store instead of into the game, and I’d love to spend my money on something, but I’m not going to drop ten bucks for a dye that I could match with a little TP previewing and 94 copper.

I don’t understand what is going on with gem store pricing. It used to be at least plausible that the handful of people buying things multiple times at high prices outweighed the potential for thousands of people to buy one each at reasonable prices, but now it just seems so unlikely. I mean, who is buying the BL starter pack, even at “discount” price?
On top of that the pricing is alienating a lot of players, and making it really difficult to be positive about the game. As I’ve said before, I love the game in almost every other area, but the gem store is making me feel less and less like a valued customer.

I’ve started to notice that both endgame GW2/new content and new gemstore upgrades being catered towards compulsive players, whereas “vanilla” GW2 was a more polished and well-rounded game for all players. I’m at the point where I’d rather pay towards a subscription model so they’d focus more on pleasing the entire player base and not have to focus on making money quite so much. With WoW WoD, Rift 3.0, ESO, and various other non-MMO titles on the horizon, I can only fear for the worst.
Another week of avoiding buyer’s remorse. Nothing here interests me.
I am sincere when I say “thank you”. I spent far too much RL money on Gems last year, and need to curb my enthusiasm when it comes to the “new shiny” on these bi weekly offerings in 2014.
Nothing you need with a hint of horrible RNG. Another pass from me.
Don’t support the Gem Shop, it’s that easy.
More RNG! Woot! </sarcasm>
Food extender might be worth it if it was extended to utility nourishment (oils/stones). As it is, it doesn’t save enough money, and you still have to watch your utility timer. (Gets rid of most of the convenience factor)
Isn’t 150 gems like 10 gold? Wouldn’t the food have to cost, like 41 silver for a half hour to be worth it. (gold to gems)
Or looking at it the other way. 150 gems will get 7 gold, you could buy any food that costs less that 29 silver and come out ahead. (gems to gold)
Right. What I was saying is that even if you were buying it for a convenience item (never be caught with no food in a WvW fight), the fact that it doesn’t cover your utility nourishment means it’s not even a good convenience item.
Sounds like gemstone crafting 500 is near which will likely require lots of Silver/Gold?
well if the food could stack with banner hero buff’s.. i think it may be worth it.
It should have been herbs. They always in need.
Or a sheep, some worms and a flax/cotton plant for wool, silk, linen and cotton.

Next gemstore promotion: “Buy a mine contract and own your very own ore mine! Resource management and stuff, a new level of roleplaying, blah blah,…”
Someone will be happy about it. Then well get cotton nodes, and cotton plantation, and one of the NPC’s will be black, and BAM people up in arms about it.
Hey Dulfy, do you think it would be possible to make another set of armor previews for the dyes with some of the heavy armor with more metal pieces?
I know you chose the 6 sets used in your dye previews based on specific criteria, but since these dyes are specifically made to look good on metal (at least I assume based on the name) it might be nice to get a couple previews with a few of the armor sets that are full plate mail and such.

With the exception of the 6 new dyes, the others are pre-existing dyes. I (stupidly) bought one of these “new dyes” from the gemstore (by exchanging 9 gold for 125 gems) and got a common dye that sells for 10 silvers on the TP.
My advice to everyone is to NOT buy the dye pack from the gemstore. Buy the dye you want from the TP instead.
Another pass from me too. None of these benefit me (perhaps if the ore nodes were rich nodes I’d reconsider because then it would be handy and guaranteed for daily gatherer on mules), the primer thing is useless for me, and the dyes aren’t that spectacular. Unlike some of the flame and frost ones which actually had a nice metallic, fiery look (pyre dye, for example).

Does this help, Electro? I also included a side-by-side with my current FXAA PPI enhanced graphics settings to help show the contrast on the materials.
I also second RottenRagamuffin’s statement of do not buy the dye packs, just buy the dye you want from the TP. You’re guaranteed to get the dye you want without gambling and will cost less than repeatedly playing their silly game in the hopes of getting the one you want.

Copper’s common as hell.

That, and an alt or two parked in places that have several nodes of these materials in a small area will yield you more materials, for free.
The price of these items avoids them being called out as “pay2win”. If you want the convenience, well there you go, but you’re not going to see any in-game advantage by purchasing them.
I find the prices quite satisfactory, even though I am not going to buy them.

They’re not even that convenient. You’d be better off turning the gems into gold, and buying as much copper, silver and gold ore that gold will buy you then mining 3 of each per day for the rest of the game’s life.

I agree
Sheesh, Food extender. That’s hardly convinient, you’ll still have to click the food and watch the timer to keep it ongoing.

^THIS is what I want. Idk if a fridge is the right thing for it though. Tapeworm? Tapeworm.
