When last I checked, there appears to be some kind of glut of various wood and silk scraps on the TP. This morning I put up a couple of wood pieces (don’t recall the name offhand), but there were something like 2×10^6 pieces up on the AH at the current low price.

Is this normal? Can’t something be done to fix this situation?

Like what? Those items really are not used for anything other than crafting, which stops at the top end of the game, where you get a new and continuous supply of items that break down into those mats again.

The only thing they could do is offer up another one of those… convert 250 silk 250 seasoned wood and some other stuff to give a magic chest with a chance at ectos/rares, like they had to do with butter.

Unlike butter however, they can’t stop tons and tons of silk from sitting in the market…. it just isn’t used for anything and people are keenly aware that converting it to gossamer is not profitable. Gossamer will also continue to drop in price as time goes by because that doesn’t go out of the market either, (except for exotic crafting, which will slow down as the game ages).

It’s an economy problem. Those mats drop too frequently and the demand is insufficient.

I’d argue that it’s a game design problem and not an economy problem. The market is working as intended in terms of these items being incredibly common and very undesirable, and thus being priced appropriately. Whereas the game design is “flawed” in the sense that these junk items exist.

T5 mats drop in endgame content in large amounts, but are used to make leveling gear.

Mithril, and to a lesser extent, Elder Wood maintain some value because they are used to make precursors via the forge, alongside piles of T5 mats. Hardened Leather and Silk have no such uses.

Hence the massive glut of the stuff.

Put it on the books, folks. This is the first time I have ever agreed with a post you’ve made. Miracles do happen.
