Gold Sinks - What is your opinion? Additional examples.
Crafting.
Crafting is a ridiculous gold sink.
There is crafting, if you want to be useful for your team in WvW you can buy siege weapons, respecing, travel points, repairing, gathering. there are others.
Gold sinks aren’t really the issue. The issue itself is that player income isn’t proportional to the gold sinks. A lot of mmos have massive amounts of gold sinks, but it isn’t a hindrance because player income is proportional to them. So travel should be near a 1-to-1 ratio. If I spend 5-10 minutes in an area I should be able to earn travel money right back. For big ticket items you will need to farm a bit and that’s reasonable. If they want to keep the gold sinks they need to adjust player income compared to the costs especially the costs of traveling. Of course it’s a complex issue since the TP is also involved and most stuff on it are being sold at a loss. Crafting doesn’t feel like it’s worth much aside from leveling exp.

I just always figured ArenaNet wanted it to be hard to make money so you would give them money to give you money so you can spend your money and then give them more money so they can give you money. :|
I am level 50 and my armorcraft skill is at the moment the big gold sink because I am trying to complete it
During beta people justified GS saying that they are needed to counteract the inflaction based on the prices of the goods sold in the TP.
The TP prices of equip is drastically lower than they was on beta so now people are caught in the crossfire of massive quantity of gold sinks and laughable incomes
gold sink = inflation control. Less inflation = more stable economy = good
I personally don’t find it to be a big hindrance even though I always use wp. Crafting in most game cost money to level up.
This is actually the first game where I feel that I actually need to control my spending, and for me that’s a good thing. It’s just a big change that many people are having trouble to adjust from other MMO experience. If they adjust the “income” to a higher level, that means more money in the system, met price in TP will “inflate”, your real purchasing power doesn’t change.

This is exactly my thought as well.

This. I’m pretty certain it was all designed with the gem store in mind.
