Q:
Gold to gems now or after feature pack ?
It’s difficult to gauge.
A few things to bear in mind:
- Character slots are on sale, and bag/bank slots were on sale a few days ago. This means gem prices are high currently.
- People will want to buy the gem-store armor sets after the feature patch leading to an increased cost of gems.
- This is a speculation of mine, but with the account bound nature of dyes coming, it would be unlike ANet to miss an opportunity to flood us with the Gem Store dyes again – especially as they were not included in any of the March sales (except the new releases).
If I were a gold→gem merchant, I’d exchange on the 13th or 14th.

I don’t expect too much change in the exchange rates leading up to patch. Maybe do half before half after? Get a good average going.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
They are nerfing gold from champ boxes, the question is how big influence on total gold these boxes have but it’s rarely seen that gold in games just like the money IRL grows on value.
~10.20 for 100 gems is still cheap IMHO, in the near future maybe we’ll see 1g=1gem.
So…now I’m quite confused. After feature pack gems price will rise a lot?
Gem prices rise as more gold is converted into gems. I don’t see a reason why after the feature pack that there will be an upswing in buying gems with gold.

So… if feature pack goes live …should I wait for a price drop? Nowdays…people are buying character slots…and the price is high
I highly suggest you consider converting over the weekend. There’s something epic coming on Tuesday.
With all the shakeup Tuesday, I think it would be wiser to wait and see. The entire character is being changed, millions of dyes landing at once, trait lines, rune balancing, wardrobe. All the disparate servers moved into a load balancing scenario that’s sure to upset the market and you are worrying about conversion factors?
I don’t think I would worry about the gem to gold market just yet, if anything, buying more gems might be smart if we see serious inflation in any sector.
Personally I think conversion rate will skyrocket (that is, you will get less gems with gold and more gold with gems) on the 15th, at least briefly. People will be buying an absolute treasure trove of style items and skins from the gem store because of the new warddrobe, and style items being usable in combat.

Which is what I think the big surprise is, a massive sale and return of all skins ever introduced onto the TP. So monitor the exchange rate
(gw2spidy’s gem chart seems down since the 9th) and buy when the rate dips under 9g per 100. I’m guessing that Monday 3am EDT is when the character slot sale is over and their may be players willing to cash in some gems to take advantage of the high rate to get gold, which will drive down the rate.

I bought 800 gems a few hours ago when they were relatively low.
I only buy gems when I can put 2g in and see more than 23 gems in the other box, that’s my gauge. So near or less than 8g per 100.
