I tried to purchase gems and was unable to complete the purchase without confirming my identity so I followed the link provided in the onscreen error message and it took me here:

It’s asking for a lot of my bank details for a helpdesk and has ‘zendesk’ in the address? Is this site legitimate? I don’t want to have money stolen or my account hacked!

I had a problem with buying gems a few months ago (same thing about confirming my identity) and the website I was directed to that time set off all the security alerts on Internet explorer. I didn’t do anything, but the next day I could buy gems again as normal so it seems like I didn’t have to confirm my identity in the end. I’ve waited a day this time and still have the same problem, though.

Can anyone help me? I really want to buy some gems for the logging axe….

Yes it is indeed “Legit”

No matter what site it is you should never give enough information for them to be able to act fully on your behalf, even leaving your credit card has its risks these days. Its better to centralize these kind of payments under one umbrella that you put your trust in, PayPal/PaySafe is good choices in this regard.

Anyway looking over the page I could find no such demands, when asking for credit card information its only the name and four last digits so not sure where you got the bank reference from.

my roommate was flabbergasted when I told her that our landlord is definitely capable of steeling our identity based on what we gave them. It’s so infuriating that it’s common to have to give things like SSN, how much you have in the bank (a few even asked for the bank account number!!!), drivers license number, address, full name. It’s all things they use to convince themselves you will pay rent, but it could also be used to take out credit cards in your name, etc.
Don’t give personal information to anyone you don’t trust with your future.

When the first feeling you had was to not entirly trust the site, (which it obviously was, since you posted this on the gw2 forums) the question probably answered itself.. always go with your gut feeling.

Thanks for the replies! I decided not to use the website because I’m still not 100% certain that it’s secure. Even if it doesn’t ask for a specific bank name, I think that a criminal could do a lot of damage with a name, address, date of birth and partial credit card number. Paypal was a good suggestion – I’ll try an alternate payment method.
