Some ppl don’t care about listing fees. There are ppl with over 45000g out there. Now…whats the slap in the face?

I think ppl who wants to get rid of their legendary wont bring it up for the max gold you can get for it.

You do realize that they are all controlled my a few people right? That just gives the illusion that there are more than a handful of actual listers. They own all the legendaries and buy others that are listed immediately and remove them from the market.

They control exactly how much each one is sold for and ensure a monopoly on the ultra high end stuff.

“They” don’t want you to get legendaries. “They” are a sinister cabal of supertraders, who get together to drink baby blood. It’s how they get their money.

Who are “they”? Nobody knows… except maybe Narkosys.

Well, the whole “the whole market is controlled by a guild of wealthy trade post tycoons” mindset isn’t exactly unfounded, as there have been multiple instances of someone trying to start such a guild.

As long as he doesn’t tell me that it’s not a guild of players, but the gold sellers that are doing it, I’m cool with it.

Out there is a sinister group of people in black suits and sunglasses sitting around a round table in a high rise office building with laptops all watching the trading post.

They personally decide who gets to buy each item in the game, having bought every item in existence long ago. Every time one of us buys an item at their manipulated price, they laugh and sip on martinis from an oversized kittentail glass.

These “people” are either super rich and have nothing better to do with their money or are part of ANet. Either way don’t bother biting the tackle – you will end up losing.

Heh. What predator seems to be commenting on is how in both pics the top seller undercut the next top seller by 1c. Personally if I could afford to buy a legendary and I wanted one I would buy the one that was 1c MORE EXPENSIVE and then chuckle at the poor soul that’s all like “What the heck mine was CHEAPER.”

Paranoia has reached new horizons

Yeah! Implying a shadowy elite controls the legendaries market is like saying that the average member of the top 1% wealthiest Americans is 80,000 more wealthy than the average member of the bottom 40% Americans. Can’t be true, right?

Wrong: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wealth_inequality_in_the_United_States

GW2 is well on its way following. In fact, USA at least has some mechanisms to tax the rich and offer food stamps to the poor. GW2 has none.

Because it’s not possible to get gold via helping players with the Trading Post (converting goods then selling) and also make gold on your own via dungeon running and/or grinding/farming.

Sure it is. It’s also possible to make dollars working as a teacher or at McDonalds or Walmart.

Just don’t expect to ever have the money for a Ferrari/legendary with an average income.

Nothing really sinister just people who mapped out what they wanted and needed to do from day 1. They bought gold and took control of the market right at the start. Hell I wish I had done it. But I am learning. From what I gathered the top 5 have about 65% of the control and top 25 have about95% of market control.

Has nothing to do with paranoia but economics, control and wealth distribution.

Now if they all talk to each other and work together as an organization then maybe you could get paranoid or maybe you should be.

The difference between wealthy Tyrians and wealthy Americans is that wealthy Tyrians can only buy and sell goods and services, whereas wealthy Americans can buy and sell the capacity to do violence to their fellow citizens.

In the real world, “they” have a whole host of mechanisms by which they take our stuff from us: taxation, inflation, corrupted regulation, pollution, dispersal of aboriginal populations, intimidation by plain old hired goons, the occasional violently enforced monopoly or cartel (whether by government violence or otherwise), and so on. If this were Eve Online, these capabilities would exist here… only it isn’t.

In GW2, the worst thing an “evil market manipulator” can do is get a rare item before you do… and that’s only if the finder chooses to sell it. They can’t actually stop you from getting one from the game environment (unlike the real world). They can’t devalue the value of what savings you have accumulated (unlike the real world). They can’t pass arcane regulations designed to keep you from producing whatever you’d like (unlike the real world). They can’t use either gold or gems to saturate the media with their preferred message (unlike the real world). They can’t hire goons or government to keep you out of the good farming areas (unlike the real world). They can’t ruin a good farming area by emitting industrial byproducts into it (unlike the real world). They can’t overuse a farming area before anyone else gets a share (unlike the real world). They can’t keep you out of the city by buying up all the real estate (unlike the real world); as a matter of fact, they can’t keep you in or out of any place. They can’t jail you for dealing in “illicit” goods (unlike the real world). As a matter of fact, outside WvWvW, they can’t harm you in any way (and even there, their wealth can’t really do all that much). They can’t even obstruct your path with their character.

(Hmm… I wonder. Have any of the really wealthy players attempted to hire other players to WvWvW and lead their servers to victory?)

Now, if it’s ArenaNet employees doing the manipulation, that’s a whole different story—that IS like the real world, since they actually do have power. If it’s company policy, most likely, they’re doing it not to advantage any particular group of players, but rather in an attempt to squeeze out as many dollars from the gems market as possible… but that’s similar to the “neutral taxation” holy grail that has never actually been found in the real world. Of course, it isn’t unheard of for employees to go corrupt in favor of friends. It happened in Eve. But that’s a very serious accusation, and I would hope nobody would suggest that without actual evidence (at least name names), since if we just do that willy nilly, who would listen on the one occasion it was actually true?

In case you wonder who this guy is that got screwed by this ridiculous 1c undercut:
Just the average player like you and me, maybe playing a little too long. Saving up all his gold, karma and skillpoints to finally create his legendary. Then he thought it would be smart to sell it for good profit and just start a new one. He didn’t want to be too greedy and wanted to sell it fast, so he put it on a reasonable cheap price. The same it sold already 2 days before. Didn’t work out for him, and while writing this, he got undercut again by a slightly less but still pretty ridiculous amount of 20g.

And that is one reason (but not the only) this player is considering taking a break right now. Maybe if someone would place an offer of 2.6 or even 2.5k he would take it out and sell it directly, but he can’t even afford the listing fee for that.

Good day.

I have two questions.

1) When will players consider they have enough gold in their GW2 bank account?

2) What happens in a few years time when the game gets old and players move on? What will the players with lots of $$ do then?

I’m just loling at the stupidity of a humans’ greed. Seriously…its never enough is it?

Probably they’ll have enough once they get the top achievement for having gold in their account. :p

Honestly, is anybody really just banking massive amounts of gold, or were they before the addition of the achievement? Personally, I feel like I’m wasting my gold if it’s on my character or in my bank account, rather than tied up in buy orders and inventory.

@Tarvok – violence is a double edged blade. The arguments you listed are valid but one-sided. Violence can hurt the rich in just as many ways and the rich have vested interest in supporting peaceful and crime-free society.

But not in GW2. Here the rich get full security for them and their assets completely for free and can focus on the most profitable activities, which happen to be TP-related and perfect targets for maximum monopolization/cartelization.

Lol wut? They have vested interest in subjugated and working society. They dont care one bit if its peaceful or crime-free, as long as it doesn’t disturb their lives. And for the most part, nothing comes close. Consider the past half millenia and its internal country struggles. The top % didnt even notice i bet.

So you siphoned resources out of the market for your own profit and we are supposed to feel bad for you? Maybe you should organize some charity event for yourself you poor person.

Couldn’t care either way. These people are the ones who give me their money when I sell my junk. If they make money of my junk, that’s fine. I got plenty of it.

The difference is time. I’d much rather be out in the world and play the game for measly gold income, than sit at the TP 24/7 for big income. At the very least, I’m playing the game I paid for, while they do what they could do in real life for real money

If I can’t play Guild Wars 2 at work, I won’t work in Guild Wars 2 either.

while they do what they could do in real life for real money

Haha Just wanted to let you know, it isn’t the same!

I do both. As in, I generate the bulk of my income through the trading post in game, and do market analysis and work in real life.

I love both, but let me tell you, it’s a heck of a lot easier in Guild Wars! The market is extremely transparent and 99% of people are extremely impatient/impulsive. The real life analogy to the latter fact is if I were still working in trading securities, but 99% of the hedge funds were run by 8 year olds who just love chocolate and movies. Anyone with a modicum of patience and a calculator can get hundreds of g, but I 100% respect the decision of people who choose to not do so. It is a game, after all, you absolutely should not do what does not feel like entertainment to you.

I’m not quite this successful in real life. I certainly think i’m competent at what I do, but there’s (unfortunately) an enormous pool of people who have this level of talent, or much, much more. Every day, funds work at honing their trading models further. In direct contrast with the game, there is no respect for people who choose to do or not do certain things when it could benefit their companies. This is why this is work. This is why Guild Wars trading, is a game

Hi everyone,

Please refrain from making up conspiracy theories. There might be some very rich players out there but there is no such thing as a secret society who rules the TP. THis discussion has turned negative and thus we are closing this thread.

Thanks for your understanding.
