Personally I held on to 3 of these(scythe/shield/greatsaw) as i’m sure many people particularly those who read this kind of forum did.

I find these items quite interesting, what to do with them, in mid January the prices/supply in the trading post became kind of static until now, the Grinning shield is just starting to go up again.. it seems as though many people had stock of them and have been keeping the amount available to 20-30 all the time, you see these items alot out in WvW and you can see there’s always demand for them.

Are people starting to run out of stock? Grinning shield down to 9 available… so what happens next?

It seems likely to me that they’re going to reintroduce these in the next halloween event, but there is the fact that not all weapon types got interesting skins last event, what if they just release a new wave and not the old ones to allow for the last ones to become more of a rare unique item? (this would also cause alot of excitement to get the new ones if it looked like an indication that they wouldn’t be reintroduced next season probably)

Just wondering what people are thinking about these and when to sell them, as it gets closer to Halloween I wonder when/if people will start to unload them incase they become somewhat common again, how many will hang on and see if they aren’t reintroduced? How late to wait? I find it a tough interesting decision, when to cash in, they’re too valuable for me to use now and some people have too much money, they are super unique skins..

Anet has a history of making items discontinued (or at least exclusively rare) in gw1 as seen by mini mallyx, vizu, oni, etc.. so it is a possibility that it will happen again. Just my two cents

Majority of the minis quoted there were not given out in game as a reward for playing, but rather as a reward for tournament placement. There were lots of other minis given out at conventions and through magazines too. In general, the only mini that I can think of that was rare and you could obtain through playing the game (not just through RNG birthday gifts) was the ghostly hero.

The one thing that I remember them discontinuing was the HoD sword. Prices on this shot up, but later they introduced weapon upgrades that made it easier to get the same buff that was exclusively on the HoD sword on pretty much any weapon you wanted…..and then the price of the HoD sword went from sky high to rock bottom.

Basically, anet doesn’t have a history of discontinuing items, they have a history of giving out exclusive items as prizes for events in real life that involve the game. Now, I can tell you “they are going to have the same skins this halloween” or that they won’t, you just have to go off of your knowledge of what Anet has done in the past and your investor instinct.

but 40g+ for anything but a precursor is silly i think

There are many things above 40g which are not precursors and look a whole lot better lol.

As far as gw1 goes, anet has always rehash old content so I wouldn’t be surprised if this halloween remains exactly the same as 2012

Soooooo, ehmmmm, me buying 450 lodestones to make volcanus was silly?
Of course it was! But darn, that’s what makes the game fun, you look funky every day, I can really enjoy that element of the game. Skinwars for the win!

Next goal: 100 charged lodestones for the Wings of Dwayna! Soon, I hope.

Oh, and no, I don’t have my legendary yet, I’m missing a precursor like everyone else. But I’ll get there some day. I’m in no rush.

oh believe me my characters look funky, i have a charr that looks like a space marines armor was salvaged by beastmen.

and for crafting a weapon you want no it isnt silly, but spending 40+ gold to buy the weapon when you can take some time to craft it….is what i was getting at. if you just want to buy it thats fine, but dont understand it.

I can’t believe they raised in price so much.

Anet will certainly release the skins again next Halloween, sell now imo.

The Crossing, The Mad Moon, and Arachnophobia can all be crafted with the still plentiful Halloween materials, so those at least will be around for awhile and should also be worth selling if you happened to buy them when they were “cheap.”

For the other skins… If it’s a skin you don’t particularly want (for instance, I have a Greatsaw that doesn’t fit any of my characters that I’m planning on selling) then keep them around for another couple of months then sell. It should still be a few months before people start thinking about Halloween, so they’re more likely to actually buy the skin than to wait until Halloween actually hits to see if the skins get reused.

If it’s a skin you like, then just keep it. You don’t HAVE to sell everything. I bought a Ghastly Grinning Shield when it was, like, 19g and now it’s over 200g. I like the look of it, though, so I’m keeping it, even though I haven’t applied it to a character yet.

If you bought it expressly for the purpose of selling it, well, you have to make that call. Most of the Halloween skins have at least tripled their going rate since Halloween. Find a profit margin you’re happy with and go with that. If you wait too long and the DO release the same Halloween skins, then you’ve basically shot yourself in the foot if you’re looking for cash.

I have a feeling that they’ll release the same skins this coming Halloween with drop rates similar to what we’ve seen for the Lost Shores and Wintersday skins, while making new skins that are purchasable only through the BLTC. Probably as a way to appease the incredible outcry against the skins only appearing in Black Lion Chests last year.

That’s just my opinion, though.

IMO, now is the time to sell for Ghastly shield and The Crossing since both are at an all time high and there aren’t many left to buy on the TP. The Crossing may go up in price a little, since there are still a decent amount available for purchase on the TP, but I don’t think that the Ghastly shield will go up much more….last time I logged on there were 5-6 available to buy ranging from 248g to 300g. I think people are finally buying these items out because of the new chest loot, but with the changes to the chest coming in 2 days the income for a lot of the players (likely players buying these items) is going to go down (or at least going to be perceived as going down) and then we’ll see prices drop again.

More than likely they’ll release the same skins this next year, as in GW1 they always had the same event skins every year, and maybe add a few more as well.

Either way, I’m happy with the way my investment went, spend around 40g buying skins and sell for 406g.

The skins will never be a good investment, mostly because they are awful looking for everyday use. They are fun for the holiday’s but that’s about it. If they ever release really awesome holiday skins then those will be a good investment. Hardly any of these skins ever get used up, 99% of them are just bought and sold for speculation.
