Hello,

I have 100s of gold and I want to share how I got all of it. Clearly not through grinding, through investing. But since everyone know this already I won’t go further.

Each week I’ll post an item that might make a great investment:

This weeks: Hard Wood Log.
Why? It’s at an incredibly low price (about 8 for pre-order and only 10 for buy)
Why now? This item is used for low level armor, and crafting hence since more people are going to play now since the holidays are coming (or for some have already started) = more newbies = more demand for this product.

Here's a tip to all of you.

nice attempt in price manipulation

Wow……..does every nice thing have to be attacked?

Look if you don’t want to buy it its not my problem, but don’t attack me for trying to help some people out. -_-

This doesn’t help people out, it works to drive up the price to take advantage of the people you’re “trying to help”. Even if you aren’t intentionally trying to do it, you’re doing it. Giving free advice to people like this isn’t helpful in the least, as much as I wish that weren’t the case.

Sounds like you invested here and want others to come along for the ride. Because there’s no good reason to invest in it.

Truthfully, I’m just trying to give some advice. And I think if you buy now before it goes up wouldn’t that be a good thing?

Since it is pretty much fact once the holidays start people playing will skyrocket, hence demand for the item will = money made.

So we got a supply of 700k, a steady price over the whole lifespan of GW2.

Either you’re manipulating the market or you’re trolling people.

If the former, you failed hard as there is a supply of 700k, if the latter, you’re a bad person and you should feel bad.

If you sincerely think it’s good advice, stop giving advice.

Hard wood logs already peaked due to wintersday speculation. If you bought them at 7c you could have made some ok profit, but now it’s pointless.

Are you really so short-sighted? By “helping” someone out right now telling them to invest in this item (by selling it for more later), you are necessarily screwing over someone else, i.e. the person who actually needs the item down the line.

So yeah, if you really want to be altruistic here, kindly stop trying to interfere in the market with your speculation. Thanks!

Someone should take a chill pill and go calm down in the non-trade forum. You’re going to see a lot of trading going on in this forum and it’s clear making money offends you…

Pump and dump.

If you’ve made hundreds of gold in the market and really don’t understand this term I’d be surprised. If you do, which you most likely do, you are clearly trying to earn more by inflating prices through this medium at which point you will dump your own stock destroying the market for the majority of the people your ‘helping’. If I was more of a kitten, I’d be doing this too, but more effectively.

I’m just gonna go ahead and give you the benefit of the doubt (seriously why are people so hostile towards any suggestion of altruism here?) and thank you for the tip. The wood market has been funny recently (I’m thinking bots), so I’m a bit wary of investing in it, but that is a low price for hard wood logs, and I appreciate the tip.

Crash, sincerely, tips given on this forum particularly without absolutely sound justification is just as it seems. They benefit from masses of people believing in what they’ve said leaving said people in the dust with useless stock. Sometimes you do get people trying to help, these are usually flippers basing the info given on margins between current by and sell prices. If you’d like some info on earning through the tp, i’d be happy to tell you what I’m currently doing privately, to my disadvantage rather than tell the world to my advantage after I’ve stocked up.

Although I appreciate the offer, and may even take you up on it, I don’t understand why you would be skeptical of every tip. Especially in this case where hard wood logs are low. Even if this were a case of market manipulation, there is a pretty good chance that they’ll go back up when this wave of bots is dealt with and people start crafting again after Christmas. I mean, I’m staying away from wood at the moment because I could well be wrong about this, but hard wood is an massive ingredient in two crafts, and very useful in a third.

There are literally thousands of items on the TP that are selling for 1c above base. Currently there is almost 1mil surplus of hardwood, it has never reached 27c and that was at the start of the game. More recently its top spike was 16c. It just doesn’t seem like a good venture. I’ll explain this more later, I’m a little pressed for time. OP says he is trying to help but has given absolutely no warning to people about the dangers of trading, what to expect and the ridiculous amount of storage space required that will probably be taken for a long long time. He also says he’ll be doing this every week, if there is no patch that includes this item, the only way it will go up in price is if people read what he says and buys all of the stock to drive prices. He is setting a time limit so he can make money quickly each week.

Of course the item will increase in price eventually, everything goes through ups and downs. It’s not about making a profit, it’s about making consistent profit without taking up your entire storage space. If you’re going to put all your eggs in one basket it’s should be one hell of a fool proof basket. Personally, when I started making a bit more gold, I decided to have many baskets, all of which i track with the watchlist on GW2spidy. Most weeks one will fluctuate and I can decide whether to cash out or ride the increase a little further. Sometimes you get really lucky and hit the jackpot. This method of trading allows me to still play every aspect of the game not completely encumbered with crap items and not scared that my one item will never increase in price. Sorry for the poorly written message, I really have to shoot. Get in touch if you Crash, I’ll be happy to go over what I know. Maybe while going through a dungeon or something. They should really make cafés in this game ha.

Looking at this post in the best of lights, public tips do not work in a market place based on supply and demand.

They only work if the people buying and selling are small and only has marginal effect on the market. However, the crowed playing the BLTC has sadly a rather large effect on the market, and thus tips, any tips will be counter-productive.

I like what you’re doing and are trying to help out, but you’re not helping when you say “buy this, cause it will be worth something in the future”. That will just make everyone rush to said item to try and make a profit, thus driving the price up.

What would be better if you told people at what specific things you were looking out for when investing. For instance: “I advise to look at all items that are near merchant value, these are great investments because you hardly lose any gold, they can’t go down in price!”

Or “Look out for low level crafting items, because this item is used for low level armor, and crafting hence since more people are going to play now since the holidays are coming (or for some have already started) = more newbies = more demand for this product.”

Just not calling an item by name. Which will spread out the demand coming from your tips across various materials.

I believe this is one reason many feel this is a pump and dump. Telling people a specific commodity to buy as opposed to giving principles for people to select their own commodities.

If he had bought into the Wood market already, this may lead many newbies to push the price even higher. If he gives principles, there is NO telling what commodities they might actually buy, and he would Not benefit.

This is of course assuming that someone might want to pump the price of something they bought early and cheap… hoping it drives the price higher so he could dump his commodities at the top? No… No one would ever do that … right?

The mind is its own place and in itself, can make a Heaven of Hell, a Hell of Heaven.

As a market trader, I would love it if people refrained from giving “Tips” to line they pockets, as if you already don’t have a few thousand of the mat sitting around waiting till “people I want to help” start buying so you can sell it to em and get out of your losing market. Anytime I make a bad investment I take the loss I don’t make stupid post trying to manipulate people. If you were trying to help you would do what some people on here have already done and make a post about how to come up with items to invest in rather than tell everyone buy item “A” it will make u rich. Give a man a fish he eats for a day teach a man to fish he eats for a lifetime.
