A few days ago I purchased 800 gems and bought a Wintersday Minis 3-Pack for myself (500 gems) with the intention to buy one for my girlfriend closer to Christmas once I had the money to buy more gems.

Today, the “Holiday Gifting Event” started: “From now through December 31, players who send a gift to a friend can purchase that same item in any quantity for themselves at 40% off!”

Is there a way to return the Wintersday Minis 3-Pack so that I can buy two of them and take advantage of this sale? Or is there another way I can take advantage of this sale? With the 40% discount on the second one, I’d be able to afford both with the 800 gems I purchased.

I wish. I just bought and spent 2400 gems and now I wish I had just bought them and waited.

If you didn’t gift anything that you also bought for yourself, this wouldn’t apply to you anyway. The sale only applies to that specific situation.

three mini 3-pack for 800 gems = 2400 gems
gift 1 mini 3-pack for 800 gems + three mini 3-pack for 480 = 2240 gems
both result in the same number of minis for you, plus you get to give more to your friends.

What? Their base price is 500 gems and I only had 800 gems to start. And I’m not buying four of them.

I’m really hoping to hear from Anet on this one.

my brain wasn’t with it yesterday. but the idea was still the same.
anyways, their patch notes were wrong. they don’t give 40% off for “that same item in any quantity”, they only give 40% off for “that same item in the same quantity as gifted”. it’s 1:1. still not bad and you should keep fighting for your refund, but not what I was hoping for.

Yes and no. Buy one of something for a friend, they you can buy the same item for yourself at 40% off but if the item has multiple purchase sizes such as keys, you can buy yourself the 25 key size at 40% off when you buy only 1 key for a friend. Sure not a lot of items have multiple sizes but it’s something.

makes sense. but all the good things don’t come in stacks of 25 :*(

Ya, the “any quantity” part is a bit misleading.
