Now that we have minis and finishers in the wardrobe, how about the gathering tool skins? I bought the creepy clown sickle because it’s amazing and fun. I want to buy some other skins for gathering, but the price is just… bleh.

I think this is an opportunity to further monetize the gathering tools. Charge 500 gems for the skins, but it won’t be unlimited. Charge another 500 for an unlimited gathering tool, and to curtail the “pay-to-win” stigma, make it function like the copper-fed-salvage-o-matic. So whenever you gather something, you get charged one copper.

As I just said in my thread in the General forum, asking them to put the gathering tool skins into something like this might be a bit much to ask of them.

Keep in mind that anet is a business, and they need to generate revenue. Doing something similar with the tools (though I have asked for such as well) negates all inclination to purchase another set as you don’t need it any longer. This affects their bottom line.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Would be nice, but you can bet that if ANet made this change, I’d be asking them for a LOT of refunds. (About 15,000 gems worth of refunds, to be exact.)

It would definitely be more important for them to add gathering tools to the character sheet than to add pets and finishers.

I think that the idea that someone might buy more than one set of tools is a bit exploitative of them, given their price. It would cost me $288 to fully gear out my characters like that, and I don’t think ANet could see that as a reasonable target. The existing prices are already plenty for account bound tools, $36 to fully deck out yur characters in tools is a reasonable amount by any measure.

Don’t misinterpret the OP’s suggestion. They’re suggesting separating the physical unlimited gathering tools, from the animations. You would buy each separately. The animations would presumably be just like finishers, and would work even over normal gathering tools if you had it unlocked. It would make money for Anet, since people tend to like having a variety of shinies.

I bought them all with gold .. but in total i have 15 picks, 7 sickles and 8 axes.
Most of them i bought however when 800 were like 25-30 gold.

But of course i also have often wished they were a characterwide feat so that i only
needed one and all characters could use them without switching them via the bank.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

And yet people do it, because they choose to. Zax has pointed out that he has several sets. Someone else has stated they also have several, although they purchased theirs via gold. I have 4 sets. My husband has 5. This is a convenience that they offer for purchase. It is no more exploitative than any other retail purchase out there.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Exactly my point. The Gathering skin would be purchasable and can be activated like finishers. Your gathering tool can be anything—it could be the limited ones you buy from outfitters.

I think having gathering skins would provide more opportunity for ANet in monetizing the wardrobe system. With new releases, they can pair it up with a new gathering skin that’s affordable at a 500 gem price point. With the current setup, I’m reserved at dishing out $20 since my spending limit in a month is $10.

With gathering skins, it expands ANet portfolio on their skins market. Right now, we have outfits, exclusive armors, weapons and finishers offered in BLTC.

Buying them with gold is an even less reasonable suggestion for most players. They would cost way too much either way. You could get 3600 Ori mining picks for that.

And yet people do it, because they choose to. Zax has pointed out that he has several sets.

And ANet should feel ashamed of themselves whenever that happens, like when a homeless person stumbles into a liqueur store and they sell him another bottle.

I can understand the reasoning behind that, but no need to feel sorry for me. I bought the extra sets fully aware that it was a terrible financial decision (especially once the tools became account bound). But for me, the convenience of not having to manually swap the tools between my 5 characters was worth it. (I’m one lazy skritt. XD)

Of course, if the tools gained that extra convenience of being account wide, then the convenience I paid for is gone and I’d be looking for my refund.

But what’s the harm in just picking up 2-3 Ori picks and replacing them as needed? you’re never more than a B button away from a vendor that will sell them.

As I said, I’m one lazy skritt. I find having to constantly carry a “spare” tool and revisit merchants to restock to be tiresome and a waste of my time. (And because I do a LOT of harvesting, this happens very frequently.)

I’d rather pay a premium to do it once and then never bother with it again.

NO!
We see in silver fed salvadge-o-matic they don’t know then to drove the line.
Besides I bought unlimited gathering tools and I don’t agree to any change in the way they work.

They can charge unlimited sprocket pickaxe so it comes back to having 0 income aside from ore.

For me it is a question of: space in inventory and irritation on the fact you can’t replace them in combat vs paying less and from time to time move to WvW to get the stack.
