How high will ectos go?
over 9000 copper
I’m surprised with the move in ectos. What’s driving the demand because I’m cracking every rare and getting my usual amount of ectos and I’m getting more rares dropping than ever now.
Are players switched to new characters so they aren’t getting rare drops left and right, a supply problem?
… pause …
Okay, first time I’ve looked at a chart for them in a while. Wow, that’s some supply drop in the last few months.
RIP City of Heroes
I’m actually surprised it took this long for ectos to rise up. Perhaps there was a price wall that I didn’t see.
Right now the price wall seems to be in the kitten range. Maybe it’ll take a few weeks to get past that.
I’m hoping they get to 50s, maybe higher :P I haven’t felt a decrease in rares at all, so it’s at no monetary loss to me (sorry folk who have a harder time getting them, but I like money too!)
I think it has to do with more people crafting legendaries atm after the wardrobe change so demand is higher than usual. Supply dropped a bit because players play the festival content, which doesnt really generate much ectos.

well the best source of ectos is probably the world boss train. Impossible for me to know, but my guess is that the World boss fighting doesnt appeal to as many players any more. Essentially more people were probably killing more bosses overall before.
Why? well they limited the people who were good at it to about 1 every 15 minutes, and plenty of people who would do it randomly dont anymore. Before the chance of you running into a random WB while doing something else in a zone was much higher,
Then you have the annoyance factor of a huge zerg, and not getting credit.
also, my theory is less mid/high time playing players are playing right now, due to new MMOs, no major content, and summer. A lot of these people dont use up the ectos, but they do sell them, and they arent around.
I don’t know how you guys are getting the same amount of ectos now as before mega servers. Before the feature patch I would hit about 12 world bosses in an hour, gaining 15-18 rares and around 12-16 ectos.
Now i’m lucky to get 6 ectos in an hour doing world bosses because you can only get 4 an hour no matter what you do.

Not everybody was speedfarming world bosses via guesting before the change.

Yeah speed farming world bosses with 3 servers/x characters wasn’t really done by a lot of people.
Not to mention we had a bunch of farming opportunities in Orr that netted quite many rares thanks to mob density/MF. Those opportunities are no longer there.
I suspect it’s a combination of megaservers drying up the supply of rare items (perhaps only a fraction chased world bosses, but those who did might have accounted for a substantial portion of rares available), the high price of precursors encouraging people to flush more rares at the forge, and an increased appetite for ectos (among those unlocking premium skins, especially legendaries).
More interesting to me is that the average value of a Bag of Heavy Crafting materials has gone up by 20% or so since April. Prior to the Wardrobe announcement, it fluctuated between 85s and 95s per bag; currently, it’s running about 120s/bag, a 20% increase.
I would have thought that the intense farming of Boss Blitz would have made up for any supply drops due to changes in champ farming or Frostgorge/Orr event farming.
Huh. I hadn’t noticed since I store/salvage all the Ecto I get for my own use, but I think it’s likely to be a new rush of people making Legendaries/Ascended gear. Both require quite a lot of Ectos.
