I'm afraid to buy anything on the gem store
Same.
We also have the 2nd anniversary sales coming up.

They do. Just not the majority of the forums.
There’s a reason why the reddit board is more active than the GW2 forums.

Do you think they CARE if you spend them? How cute….

Today, they put on sale the collection expander. Normally, I’d jump on that. But in 2 weeks, we learn about how they’re going to change how we “collect and trade” items. Does that mean that the collection expander I might buy, and the ones I have bought are going to be useless? What about other items, like the lumber pack? I just feel like I’m stuck in a holding pattern, waiting for them to tell us more about the feature patch.
If it’s rendered useless, past experience says that ANET will issue refunds (dyes, duplicate gem store wardrobe purchases, some townclothes, et al). However, if it is merely marginalized or made less enticing (townclothes, endless mining picks, duplicate legendaries, off the top of my head) then you’re likely on your own.
I won’t be spending money on gems until traits are fixed, but I’d be leery of making this purchase. Buyer beware.

Because we can’t be angry about both?

Waiting is a decent strategy.
- You only risk 200 gems per expander that you might buy.
- They will have another sale on expanders (some day), because everything that’s been discounted once has been discounted again.
I bought a few more, because I wanted the storage space today (not in 4-6 weeks). I freed up the equivalent of two bank tabs. Yeah, a mule would have been cheaper, but that just means I have to spend more time keeping track of stuff and moving it around when I need it.
I bought one. May buy another before the sale is over even though I’m nowhere near the 250 limit on 80% of the collection items.

Only paying attention to pats on the back isn’t a good thing.
I’m not worried about them negating expanders with the changes to trading and collecting. Even if they did, as others have pointed out, they do refunds (in gems) accordingly.
Still, I’m waiting for the anniversary sales to pop before making any purchases.

Reddit is just a less toxic version of the official forums, so really they are really “paying attention to pats on the back” isn’t really happening.
IT seems more like they are listening to the general population and less to the hardcore which will include this forum and reddit. If you read the forums you can pretty much see the same names posting most of the time, which means both reddit and gw2 forums represent a very loud vocal minority and does not reflect the game’s population except for hardcore PvP.
Hence why it feels like they are not listening, they probably are but have to consider the bigger population opinion more.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
Think of it as catering to the average. There are the loudly vocal critics and the just as vocal fans, but in terms of player population, they’re likely to be outliers in statistics. Thus Anet aims to cater for the majority who are in the middle who are neither too critical nor too fanboyish
