I really want an armor skin set from the gem store, but I’m only level 22. Let’s say I buy this armor skin set with gems, and apply it to my armor I currently have. A couple hours later, I earn better gear than what I’m wearing… What do I do, and do I have to fork over more gems just to simply remove the skin and put it on the new, better armor? I don’t want to wait until I have gear that I’ll never stop using (top-level gear, that is) just to use skins.

if they just put them in the same place as the zenith skins and shining skins from acheivments id be so happy and i would spend LOTS of gems on them….but as it stands now i will never buy one

Okay so I’ve found out I would have to spend tons of gems on splitters and transmutes… what a cash grab. Isn’t there a better way to do this than making me buy a gem item every time I earn better armor?

You only need transmutation stones (the ones you get for completing maps) to keep your skin. When you are level 80, you use the gem shop crystals on your end game gear.

So that’s all you need. You don’t have to spend a dime on stones while leveling to 80, since you’ll likely complete maps while leveling.

I have exotic skins and gears on all of my lowbies. I transmute with the free stones from mapping. Heck I even have a legendary I’ve been transmuting on my level 8.

Buy the armor you want, save it until level 80 or just get transmutation stones- you get tons of them doing map

Yellow transmutes are free – complete the maps for the five racial cities + Lion’s Arch and you get 18 stones to start with. They continue as you complete maps and occasionally for Daily rewards as well… and I’ve gotten quite a few blue transmutes (level 80 crystals) that way too. If you only play one character you never have to buy any of them.

And why would you need splitters? The armor you’re outleveling isn’t worth that much that you would want to get it back.

………. I’ve never run out of them with 15 alts and only one map completion. I’m sorry but I don’t think you’re right.

You have 5 character slots. Do a all 5 city completions on each. That will get you 90 T-stones. Doing map completions will give you more. If you find yourself running low, delete one of your extra characters you are not using and map the the cities again or map the easiest, delete and repeat.

I leveled 9 characters to 80. Used the T stones freely and never bought a single one.

Is it so hard to just wait until you’re level 80 and then apply the skin to your armor?

there are transmuting gems that transfer skins but thats just more gems to spend. best idea is buy it. throw it in the bank and when your 80 and have the exotics with stats you want THEN use the skin

I don’t see what’s so wrong with wanting to look good while leveling especially when it’s free with the transmutation stones that are just thrown at you.

There’s always the heritage skins if you played guild wars 1. They don’t look too bad and you have unlimited amount of usages for it.

Otherwise I would suggest waiting to hit 80. Its a bit ridiculous to transmute everytime you get a new piece of armour.

I always use the yellow transmutation stones while leveling! I don’t use them every time I get new armour, I limit myself to once every 5 or 10 levels or so. Sometimes I transmute the whole set, sometimes just an iconic piece. Other times, I sideline the set for a few levels, for variety, to return to it later. Also to not go through stones too fast, it’s become a bit of a sport to see how long I can last with outleveled armour. ^^
