Basically, I see this to mean along with the daily Group Events (i.e. dragons, maw, jungle wurm, etc), WvW rewards will be infusing the market with Ectos. Am I reading this correctly? I would love to hear what our resident economist thinks about this topic.

What it is probably saying is that we’ll get 1-2 rares per rank chest, which when salvaged will translate to a greater supply of ectos for WvW players, which if sold will increase ecto supply for everyone.

I hope it’s not straight Ectos in chests. At least with rare weapons/armors, there’s a chance to fail the salvage for an Ecto. Either way, I feel really bad for the people who invested in Ectos when they were 35 Silver.

They fault. Since the new rewards for doing world bosses was implemented, everybody knew ectos prices will drop. If they bought a kittenload of ectos intentionally to play with the TP and make money, then I’m glad ectos prices will drop even more.

When ecto prices drop, a lot of other items will drop as well and there will be many profit opportunities to be had.

The thing is earning WvW ranks is not as easy as you think, unless keeps, towers etc flip like crazy

Personally speaking, I see this as a good thing. A general lowering of prices across the board is good for keeping the playing field balanced between veteran players and new players.

would be interesting if a multi-server guild decided to set up a thing where half their members captured a keep, while the other half looked on, then the other half captured it while the first half looked on, etc. take turns capturing it just for a steady stream of rewards

In my experience, it takes me about an evening of WvW to get a WXP level. You could do a lot of world events, instead, in that time (especially with the amazing new API!). If the WXP chests are the same size, it’ll still be more profitable to port around doing events.

The backlog of chests that will be awarded is going to cause a massive drop in ecto prices initially, with a bounce back to ~17s, where it will stabilize due to the new source of ectos.

That is my estimation at least.

Price will not drop significantly, and this change will more than likely have no effect.

-The chests will not be awarded all at once. If you have a backlog they will be rewarded 2 to 1 for every new rank you get. So extra supply will trickle in rather than be one lump-sum
-Ranks are hard to get. You need to WvW for hours to get a rank. Opportunity cost is missing all the meta events that give you a guaranteed rare where there are plenty of them. I’m 100% sure you will get less rares per hour farming in WvW than farming metaevents
- Not everyone WvW’s

But there are many WvW’ers that only WvW. There are currently 0 ectos coming from them. Now there will be. The farmers will continue to farm elsewhere assuming it is more lucrative, which it probably will be. So we’ll still be getting farmed ectos, but now we’ll be getting ectos from the big WvW’ers. Either way, this sounds like a good thing.

Yeah, there will be a trickling effect from these ppl, but it still shouldn’t be a huge ecto supply increase.

… and the people who do just WvW(the ones who will be getting the most ranks/chests) might want to keep them for the ascended accessories

Experienced WvWers can gain more than a single rank per day. While most may only get 1 chest per day, we’re talking about a new opportunity for thousands of extra Ecto in the world. There are many servers with many people who play WvW exclusively.

I can see two scenarios here, and I don’t know which way the market will go. 1) Ecto prices fall due to more becoming available, thus saturating the market. 2) Ecto prices rise, because WvWers who kept buying them from the TP may slow down their purchasing.

I’m sort of surprised ectos aren’t already worthless. Just from doing 4-6 dragon events a day I’m starting on my 5th stack of ectos sitting in my inventory.

Now that they released the API and you can tell exactly when the event starts, it just makes it that much more efficient to farm them, and you really can just port in at the last second now. The API itself should cause a price decrease.

There might just be the opposite effect. I’m going to be spending a lot more time in WvW and that probably means I’ll get 1 or 2 rares/ectos per day rather than the 8-10 I get now from world bosses.

Add in the changes to make the daily easier to get in WvW and for sure there will be less trips to wrld bosses.

If you run a karma train, you can get 1-2 ranks relatively quickly. WvW will still not be faster at getting rares than watching dragon timer and hopping to servers to get the events done on 1 account.

It’s an either or, Either farm events or play WvW for chests. If you get rares from the chests, I wonder how many people will save up rares to try at the off chance winning the Mystic Lotto.
