Increasing gem prices is a good thing!
It is arrogant of you to assume that everyone who plays GW2 has enough disposable income to pay for even the cheapest of items.
You had enough disposable income to pay for the game. That’s just about two weeks worth of lunches!

Snotty? Welcome to the real world made of money.
If you have money, you can come into the game with 200 achievement points and 5 legendaries.
“These guys come simply used, cash. They have no game skill, and never been through farming.”
See that 18 year old university student who has never worked in his life driving his Posche into the campus getting all the girls?
You don’t have to be impressed by him. You don’t have like him.
He don’t need it from you either.
I’ve partied people wielding legendaries and have no idea how to even run CoF.
Someone was holding Bifrost with less than 1k achievement points, being a noob and a burden at HotW. I’ve been saving up like mad for the precursor Legend but for every 100g I save the price goes up by 200g. I am jealous and I am not gonna deny. I deserve the Bifrost more than him.
But no one will care. He got the Bifrost and I don’t. The Posche kitten got the car and girls while the poor goody two shoes don’t. The school principal will even like him more than you. That is all that matters.
People who pay cash for gems are income source for Anet. Their money fuels the company, keeps the artists and programmers alive. If you pay cash for gems, you are worth more than ten players who refuses to.
VFX company Rhythm & Hues went bankrupt just as Life of Pi box office passed half a billion dollars and won the best VFX oscar award. Hundreds of staff went jobless. Without money no matter how magnificent the work, is pointless.
An article I read some time ago about the real world.
Let’s say that the person you love the most has just been shot. He or she is lying in the street, bleeding and screaming. A guy rushes up and says, “Step aside.” He looks over your loved one’s bullet wound and pulls out a pocket knife — he’s going to operate right there in the street.
You ask, “Are you a doctor?”
The guy says, “No.”
You say, “But you know what you’re doing, right? You’re an old Army medic, or …”
At this point the guy becomes annoyed. He tells you that he is a nice guy, he is honest, he is always on time. He tells you that he is a great son to his mother and has a rich life full of fulfilling hobbies, and he boasts that he never uses foul language.
Confused, you say, “How does any of that kittening matter when my (wife/husband/best friend/parent) is lying here bleeding! I need somebody who knows how to operate on bullet wounds! Can you do that or not?!?”
Now the man becomes agitated — why are you being shallow and selfish? Do you not care about any of his other good qualities? Didn’t you just hear him say that he always remembers his girlfriend’s birthday? In light of all of the good things he does, does it really matter if he knows how to perform surgery?
In that panicked moment, you will take your bloody hands and shake him by the shoulders, screaming, "Yes, I’m saying that none of that other kitten matters, because in this specific situation, I just need somebody who can stop the bleeding, you crazy kittening kitten.
So here is my terrible truth about the adult world: You are in that very situation every single day. Only you are the confused guy with the pocket knife. All of society is the bleeding gunshot victim.
If you want to know why society seems to shun you, or why you seem to get no respect, it’s because society is full of people who need things. They need houses built, they need food to eat, they need entertainment, they need fulfilling sexual relationships. You arrived at the scene of that emergency, holding your pocket knife, by virtue of your birth — the moment you came into the world, you became part of a system designed purely to see to people’s needs.
^ cant agree more.
I like to mention 3 facts (the last one has not really been said)
1. people who buy gems with cash help Anet to pay their bills and keep their best programmers and designers. That way, you get new content every now and then.
2. hardcore players can earn gold easier/faster than casual/cash players and trade for gems without spending real cash while enjoy the free content Anet keeps providing to ALL of us.
3. BE HAPPY that the people who buy gems are supporting Anet and not some illegal gold selling company/agent. RESPECT them for the simple fact that they are paying DOUBLE to TRIPLE the amount of cash for the same gold they could have gotten MUCH cheaper if they decide to buy from goldfarmers.
- If the gold-gem conversion goes way below (4-5 times or 6-8times lower) than the illegal gold sellers, they maybe forced to go that route. IF that happens, you wont get any gems for gold, Anet gets not support, and gold sellers roam Tyria.
which one do you prefer if you are not a cash spending player??
Oh quit being so melodramatic.
They just released new items in the gem store, of course gems are going to be on the rise. As it currently stands, the more gold that gets traded in, the more gets traded back out, and the gold>gem conversion goes up accordingly.
Be glad you have the option to get the gems for free. The price is not going up so high it’s unaffordable, and if it did, it would go back down over time as lest people would be converting gems to gold.
tl;dr – Be glad you have the option to trade gold for gems. Go farm some dungeons if you’re poor.
Tarnished Coast [TC]
Honestly, I don’t see the point of arguing back and forth over this. The content that is /somewhat/ required, such as Bank space and extra slots are cheap enough imho.
For people who complain of those who simply buy their way into top-level gear, give it a rest. Do you think these players have even a fraction of the enjoyment that other players like us who make only small purchases every so often?
Stop being so overly kitten about this, atleast the money is going to Anet where it will be used properly.
I think ppl stopped being overly kitten about this specific topic …ummmmm….27 days ago
LOL! Necroposter ftw!!!
