Influx of new players
With the influx of new players from the recent sales event and the release of the game in China. How if it all do you see this effecting the global economy of the game. I myself believe that we will see some significant changes in items at static price points. What are everyone else’s thoughts on this?
China will be seperated from our market, so it will have NULL influence
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

I had no idea that was the case. Seems odd to me. I thought the economy in the game was global. Any idea why they are going to have a separate economy?
Not 100% sure but I think different regions are separate – NA, Europe exist in different physical locations and don’t share any info. In addition the China release is almost a completely different game.

Anet can’t even market and maintain the game directly in China and needed an extra Chinese Distributor, so thats maybe one of the main reasons.
Personally i’m also happy about this just from a performance point of view. The response times from Europe are often enough already bad enough, since it seems that first you open in webpage in US, the webserver then somehow communicates back with the SQL-Server in Europe to scan your invent and so on ..

They have different Gameservers, but they use the same global Server for the TP.

It’s going to be a separate game. China has a lot of governmental restrictions on things that will require significant alterations to nearly every aspect of the game. These alterations are a major reason I’m sure.
The other issue would be the economic shock that would happen if you added several billion people to the economy (potentially, obviously it won’t be that high) all at one time.
So China will be on the same TP Server that we all share? Interesting. I really hope they beef up their hardware in that case. The influx of new connections is going to be brutal it sounds like.

I don’t think so. Non-Chinese companies like ArenaNet aren’t permitted to run video games in China. ArenaNet is licensing out GW2 to a Chinese company which will probably handle the hardware in house.
China is separate because China requires it to be separate. Plus the game is different enough in it’s reward structure that it can’t use a common market.
While the NA and EU game servers are in different locals, the TP server is unified between NA and EU. Since the game went live at the same time and only language is different between them, we can share the same TP server.
Also the game doesn’t officially go live in China until May 15th. Right now it’s in open beta.

Nope .. they will not. They are totally separated like i already said.

Even EVE has a separate chinese server. As already said, it is a restriction due to laws and not due to Anet’s decision.
Edit: Just mentioning EVE because otherwise it’s all just one server.
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
Some reasons why China’s TP is isolated to China:
The Chinese version of GW2 is a P2W model.
Cultural reasons regarding the naming of armor/weapons
Cultural reasons regarding the look of armor/weapons
Chinese law on foreign businesses operating in China
And from personal exp, the database structuring of both the NA/EU TP and the Chinese TP are completely different. The Chinese database can be smaller due to their writing system. Same with a Japanese only database. Plus, NA/EU languages don’t translate properly into Chinese and Japanese writing forms.
My Japanese version of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (Dracula X: Nocturne in the Moonlight) for the Sega Saturn is the full game. When it was translated for English, they needed the PlayStation due to the increased size of the data just because they changed from Kanji to English. This also caused the loss of 50% of the equipment, 4 zones, and one full playable character.

OMG .. not that one again. Time for someone to push the watchwork thread again.

From the examples of some of the differences I have seen listed, I would not say it is a TRUE 100% P2W game, but it is certainly monetized differently than the GW2 we are playing and some of the things they are doing would make me NOT want to play (and would certainly invite even MORE “GW2 is P2W NOW!!!!!”, threads in this place).
