Insider trading is rampant...
its not extreme to go by the data there is out there given by anet.
and 2 things make it so that i would belive that magic find items would be impossible to make for some time(atleast the items in quetion).
first is the fact that they said that they would remove mf and take all mf items of the tp.
that will make people but the items if they want the skin and also pay alot more then they wanted to if the change did not happen.
seconed is based on speculations of the items out from the statment that some high level items will still be tradeble where the mad moon and the crossing easy could be speculated to be one of thoes given that they come from hallowen and unless they will take the skins out they need to make them tradeble and as i understand the programing makeing some tradeble and some not is impossible.

This is a good point, has Anet said anything about those leaks ending up on Reddit/in a paste bin?

They don’t release patch notes to alpha tests that involve the economy. It only involves class/trait/mechanic changes.
There have only been 2-3 giant patch leaks (probably both from Sacrx) and they haven’t contained anything extraordinary

Vol, with all due respect, how do you know this to be true? Are you an alpha tester? If you’re not, and this is info has been relayed to you – directly from an alpha tester or indirectly – it doesn’t comfort me. A few months ago, I was told a bit more general stuff via via as well regarding an upcoming patch, on which I didn’t act (nor did I want to, but that’s beside the point). But it did concern the economy, I can tell you that.
Other than that: even if they don’t provide all the patch notes, as you say, it would surprise me if they would implement anything to do with the economy at the last hour. That stuff needs testing as well. So anyone stepping up to the forge and having a go at the crossing would have found out it was disabled.

they dont need to disable anything for the tester in the mf in a test server but they can do it in a live server. i dont think it would take alot to change it so that a mf recipe is disabled and i gess it dont need testing on how it works
all they have to do is make the recipe to be 4 items that cant be found ingame in any way and problem solved now the mad moon and the crossing is still able to be mad tho its disabled to be mad at the same time as the items you need to make them is impossible to get then the item is impossible to make tho its still a recipe in the forge there for you can stat that they disabled the recipe to be used

Yeah, for good reason. This thread, and the other that has evolved into this same topic, is ridiculous.
If any dev/mod needed to do anything at all, it would be to combine these two or what would be more ideal is to lock them. There’s no value here.
Actually, it has been rather entertaining.

I’m not an alpha tester (or if I was I wouldn’t admit it :P) but looking over the past leaked notes, they were always (from what I recall) class balance changes.
The people who leaked you info with economic implications probably had a relation with those who get previews, i.e. dulfy/mmo/blog sites

However, it indicates what people have already suggested. There are leaks. If leaks such as this could regularly come out on Reddit, it is not hard to imagine certain economic related leaks would also be shared on a smaller scale to benefit the few closer to the leaker.
Think about it. If the leaker decide to leak economic patch notes along with already released traits/balancing notes, their small circle’s potential earning will be eroded very quickly by the massive reddit readers.
Anyway, end of the day I doubt Anet will do anything. They will not even plug the hole about these leaks related to trait/balance notes.

Do you not dispute the leaked patch notes released multiple times on Reddit? The last leaked one was bang on for accuracy. Do you agree there is someone leaking information?
You ask for evidence. At the same time you cannot prove insider trading is not going on, where is your evidence? So you are going with “ignorance is a bliss?”

there is balance leaks yes there is, but unless we know how the testing servers work we cant say that they are affected by economic balances at all, as there is no need for economic changes to be tested on the testing server as that can be tested by a simulation program meaning there is none that can leak any economic changes in any way as they dont have them but they do have the balance notes and they are being leaked.
unless you can stat that is wrong then i cant agree with the logic that says that because they leak balance notes there is a leak in economic notes to.
i dont need evidence to state there is no insade tradeing as anet has rules are/should regulate that plus that people are innocent to proven guilty not guilty into proven innocent
so i cant say there is anyone makeing insade tradeing as i cant prove it in any way shape of form tho i can think there is but without prof that is worth nothing.

I concur!! I think we can all agree on this!
Since I can’t ask if these two are married I will STAY ON TOPIC by saying that it appears theory and speculation is what we have to go on. The devs will not comment publicly especially if they’re doing any internal investigations. If similar events happen in the future then who knows for sure right? There that’s better.
Don’t support the Gem Shop, it’s that easy.

Why does no one think it was Anet themselves? They all have characters in the game and in some cases, like we saw in GW1, they have dozens of characters. They could easily buy up all the stuff so that normal people can’t take advantage of it. This type of thing happened in GW1 too, the best way to make sure no one benefits from info they should not have is to buy everything up themselves.

Because they won’t. They realise the majority of their players aren’t aware of the issue, so they won’t respond because they can ignore it……not a professional attitude at all but it’s the one that will end up being used.

Exactly. They live in dark, “stupidity”, so they’re happy.
Not when they want some interesting stuff but can’t get it without a lot of pain…

Because nobody has proven insider info leaking. It’s your claim, you have to provide the positive proof because it’s impossible to prove a negative.

Even if you can’t prove that this sort of insider trading is happening, it would be foolish to operate from the perspective that “since nobody has proved it, it must not happen”.
That’s the opposite of a security mindset and since this is about protecting an economy from people using information to make large gains with little risk, while costing the community as a whole – it should be assumed that it is either happening or could be happening.
If I were in charge of testing new features, I would, when possible, withold some changes while mentioning some false changes.
That could compromise QA to some degree, but I doubt the change in silk was something that really needed to be play tested – or perhaps it’s tested on cotton, then implemented in silk, etc.
There are other things you could do with heuristics but it would be complicated. You can never completely prevent these things, but I think they should take actions to increase risk and reduce the reward and make the whole thing a bit uncertain.

Yes. Thanks for agreeing with me.
If they want to maintain their relationship with Anet, If they value early access to the game content over a quick buck, then yes. Does that mean do I think they are all angels? No. It’s always a temptation but I don’t think it’s as wide spread as implied Dreamslayer. There is a big gap between nobody and “rampant”.

I did not imply anything as to the degree to which this happens, other that to assert that it is something more frequent than “never”.
Most of the posts in this thread amount to people saying “how could we possibly have any insider trading crime when it’s illegal and no victims have come forth to file a complaint?”
When the tin foil hats present proof of their allegations of insider trading, I’ll believe it. Until then, the burden of proof lays with the finger pointers.
I was following Candy Corn for quite some time without having any investments in that area, curiosity really. Last year during the events the Corn was dirt cheap, we are talking single digit copper cheap. As expected the price very slowly rose during the year. Then weird things started to happen.
Anet announced they will be adding a personal Candy Corn node before patch. There was no official notice that the drops/world nodes will be far fewer this year. I expected an abundance of Corn personally. And yet about two days before Halloween hit the supply was not just bought out. It was bought out from less than 30 cc to 60+ copper a piece. People kept arguing at first the supply will increase and prices will drop since it’s driven by the “gimme the mini pet right naw” factor. And yet half way trough Halloween the prices are still in the 60 copper a piece area and the second LS update didn’t add anything to drops of Candy Corn.
Just another story in this thread, really. Did I earn my tinfoil hat yet?
I’m not really taking a side as to whether or not it is, or isn’t happening. But the possibilities of it happening are pretty notable.
Word of mouth, as many have noted is one of the more susceptible issues for those play testing.
However, I feel many forget how much data-mining goes around in this game. Chances are there’s likely been numerous game file hints to also lead to people learning things before others and taking advantage of it. Heck, likely even a bit more in detail than even the play testers get to know of.
These are merely possibilities of course, but I don’t consider it a far stretch.
Even if you can’t prove that this sort of insider trading is happening, it would be foolish to operate from the perspective that “since nobody has proved it, it must not happen”
Strawman.
You: since nobody proved it, it must not happen.
Us: since nobody proved it, you can’t make any conclusions.
