Investment Items
Yep, ectos, t6 materials and lodestones.
Gems may work as well, but only on the long run and for really big amounts of money.
It may sound weird, but skill points may be a good investment as well, as you can convert them into Eldricht scrolls and craft some exotic expensive weapons… but this is not something that you can invest in… is more like you play normally and accumulate them… or you can trade fractal relics for skills points.
Consider investing in some of the underpriced t6 mats, like venom sacs and totems.
Lodestones are not a good investment yet. There are two things that I think will happen with them
First, Arenanet will probably adjust the drop rate. They’ll probably include them in heavy moldy bags or make them a world-wide drop rather than from certain elementals. This will drop the price down.
Once that is fixed, they will eventually introduce more legendaries. This will increase the demand of lodestones. There are certain lodestones that are underpriced, so buy those ones.
I’m also thinking that Copper Doubloons are a good investment opportunity. Silver Doubloons are used for Juggernaut, so they could introduce a recipe that allows you to upconvert. It’s also a very safe investment. A stack of 250 copper doubloons costs about 3g.

Thanks for the input guys.
I’m also wondering about the next expansion for crafting materials. I’m sure there’ll be items that require an abundance of particular materials, ie, the “Corrupted” items.
Lodestone drop rate probably won’t go up, but cores might. It’s another nice money sink because every 2 cores→lodestone promotion takes 50s out of the economy. I know my dungeon runs get me about 5-10 cores before I get a lodestone.
Not that it affects what you want to buy at all.
Find items worth the minimum amount possible in the game (1-2 copper) and invest in those.
Remember Chocolate? Black Peppercorns? Both of those had something that happened to rapidly and drastically affect the price.
Chocolate was hyped to be heavily involved in Christmas, and then had it’s drop rate changed. It then went to 1.5 silver briefly. It’s still floating over a silver.
Black Peppercorns had their drop rate changed and went up to 70 copper briefly and are not floating between 10 and 20 copper.
Investing in something like Tier 5/6 mats may seem like a good idea, but it’s a volatile market that you could either gain a little money or lose a little money on. Picking up items at 2 copper looks a little like this…
2c
x10000
2gold
Assuming a minor change or minor hype in the item, and the price goes up to 5c, you’re doubling your money. Assuming it does what Peppercorn or Chocolate did though…
70c
x10000
70g
1.5s
x10000
150g
10000 is only 40 stacks. Make an ALT, give him 8 slot bags (essentially free) and fill him with your choice of 2c material. Call him Cinnyman.
If you can’t tell, my choice was Cinnamon. Shame we didn’t have a Valentine’s Day event, I would have made a lot of money.
Give it time mate, give it time. They were a bit busy with the living story, but maybe next year, eh? Anyways, thanks for the advice on the low cost items, your example makes a lot of sense.
I decided on a gamble, investing in a material that I thought would explode in a future update or expansion. Luckily, this item is also stable in price.
Piles of putrid essence. I bought a few stacks to sit on. Hope they will be part of some new legendarys. Oh and holiday skins/ sigils
Cinnamon. eggs, Piles of putrid essence, Powerful venom sacks
Jade Quarry
It’s a fine idea and it works because almost everything I look at swings once in a while. Just make sure it’s gold your willing to lose OR make sure the item you invest in is something you might find a use for later, like consumables.
