Is the ecto salvage rate broken again?
With a sample size of 25 this is just absolutely in normal range. Please stop assuming any nerfs or changes with sample sizes below several hundreds. It just doesn’t make sense. If there really is a change – be it intentional or not – there are enough players salvaging hundreds or thousands of rares per day. Be sure that they would notice it and hit the forums pretty quick. Just like it has happened the one and only time yet, where there really had been a change.
And to provide some data: salvaged several hundreds. Everything in normal range as well.
I did not assuming anything, I just noticed the same behaviour (~50% rate, no 2/3 ectos per salvage) that happened the last time the salvage rate was bugged and asked if this happened to anyone else.
I can’t afford to salvage hundreds of rares just to check a bug, so I asked the forum.
And let’s be honest, it wouldn’t be the first time A-Net re-introduced a bug with a seemingly unrelated patch.
Again: if you can’t provide a relevant sample size yourself, at least refrain from opening a thread. If there was a change, there would be enough players with relevant sample sizes and you would already find a thread with the according data. You surely wouldn’t be the first to notice.
So: as long as there is no thread with at least several players with relevant sample sizes, there most probably just isn’t any change.
So by your logic I am only allowed to ask a question when I already know the answer myself?
You can ask what you want, if you’re into senseless discussions. It will just lead to nothing, just like all the other times, this question was asked or this assumption was made without relevant backing data.
I just wanted to convince you to ask yourself one question before opening a similar thread in the future:
“How probable is it, that I am the first one to notice, when I am only salvaging some low number?”
But I guess that is just as senseless…

Feel free to ask. But many people (me included) will point out how pointless your question is due to lack of data.
If you’re so easily annoyed by such statements, bring more data.

Well someone has to start that first thread and it just so happened to be this guy. Not really seeing what the problem is with him asking for others input when this is exactly what you say needs to happen for a good sample size.

The problem is, that these kind of threads are being opened all aorund the forums about every second day. And in most cases they just lead to several people posting their bad luck of the day with 5-50 rares. In some cases it most probably has been the try to influence the market. And in one case yet, there really has been a bug. And in this special case, there has been a lot of relevant samples provided by different players in pretty short time. In all other cases not. And this will be the next example.
Why not wait, if someone with relevant data opens a thread? And why not just assume, that it is bad luck, when there is no thread?
About 300 rares salvaged in the last 24 hours: usual salvage rates for me.

Thank you.
My question has been answered, the thread can be closed.
Did 46 last night after that last round of patches. Came up a little short (0.83 per) but did have 2s and 3s.

it’s always broken. I’m supposed to be able to salvage a rampager’s ring and get over 9,000 ecto, and I’m just not seeing these sort of numbers.

master’s salvage kit only give you 25% chance of getting rare mats ie ectos, etc. with it you get :
25% of getting 1,2 or 3 ecto , giving
= 1/3 ( 0.25 + 2*0.25 + 3*0.25)
= 1/3 (0.25 + 0.5 + 0.75+)
= 1/3 (1.5)
= 0.5
so on average you get only half ecto for every use of master’s salvage kit on rares, which telly to what you got, well almost…..
i’m not sure if exotics give you more chance of getting ectoes….

Except azizul that number is not for ectos. We’ve gone over this time and time again.

isn’t ectos considered rare mats ?
Archeage = Farmville with PK
They are talking about higher tier salvage. Getting Orichalcum Vs Mithril or Gossamer Vs Silk for example. Ectos are an additional drop when a rare or higher item is level 68 or higher.
Experimentation a while back seems to have settle on 0.9 ectos per rare (68 or higher) with a Master Salvage Kit. 1.25 ectos per rare for a Black Lion’s Salvage Kit.

Nope not this time…
Got a better rate than that with only 16 sample size, 3 days in a row now…
I rarely say this … but … I think this time, it really is just you!
Be careful crossing the street, or atleast wear a pair of clean underwear when you go out!
BAD LOOT, ECTO DROP! STOCK UP NOW!
I don’t see any difference. I’m still experiencing the same usual rates for me:
- salvaged 3 rares, got 0 ectos.

If the ecto salvage rate does change it would be easy to spot in the market price. The ecto market turns over so quickly that any drop in the salvage rate would cause the price of ecto to rise quickly – just as we saw when the salvage rate bugged out last time.
If the price isn’t moving, it’s a safe bet that nothing has changed and that you’ve just hit a cold streak.

This is a false assumption. drastic price change has happened in the past without any in-game changes. When they announced that guaranteed rares from world bosses would be per account instead of per character, the price of ectos shot up from ~20s to ~25s based not on any change in ecto supply, but through a change in mindset of the market.
For the last incident, it is very hard to pin point whether the rise in price was caused by the actual bug or by people getting spooked out by the thread. Seeing as we had an incident where we saw a rise in price due to the latter, it’s very hard to conclusively state that actual salvage rate nerfs affect the market that significantly.
i wonder what’s anet’s target price for ecto, they seem to be tweaking here and there and when they do that ecto’s price swings pretty significant…..

Something does seem to be wrong. BL Salvage Kits still produce as much as they used to. Master or Mystic Forge kits seem to produce about half of what they used to. I’m too broke to test lesser quality kits.

that should telly to my calculation above…. 0.5 ecto per rare on average….

Well it’s better to say it will be easy to spot with a sudden downward change in market supply, since ectos are supplied by salvaging. True the introduction of the ecto to T6 dust through salvage also caused a run on ecto supply it was very short term.
Interestingly ecto prices have returned to the pre dust conversion level. Guess there’s enough T6 dust now.
