I’ve been selling off my inventory onto the TP and I’ve noticed that the math for projected profit is way off.

For example, I’m selling Vital Superior Studded Boots for 70c, the listing fee is 4c, and my projected profit is 63c. Grade School was a long time ago, but from what I remember 70-4=66.

Where’s the other 3c going? Is anyone else seeing this?

5% listing fee comes straight out of your pocket. The transaction fee is 10% which is taken once you sell it and that (or what’s left) is shown as projected profit.

“Whose Kitten is this?” – “It’s a Charr baby.”
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

Yep. They’re just seperated like that to make you confused.

ok … that makes sense, thank-you. What doesn’t make sense is when there’s 4000+ sellers trying to sell something for less profit than can be made selling to a NPC merchant. But I suppose that’s a whole other issue

That makes sense too when you consider that listing can be done anywhere but vendors are only in outposts. You can lose 15% on the listing to sell as fast as possible, 100% to trash them, or wait a very long time – if ever – to break even.

Doesn’t make sense to me. Do people really go so far off the beaten path, and stay there, that they can’t find a merchant to offload their goods?

It makes no sense to me that folks would inconvenience themselves for a few coppers. The events in Orr spawn fast and furious sometimes and take you all over the map. You can’t way point to a merchant, because most of the waypoints near the action are contested. Often the merchants have been killed by risen, and catching back up to the event zerg can be a hassle because of the mob density.

A 30 – 40 minute run can reliably generate a little more than a gold without trying too hard (I know lots of folks can do better than that). Do the math. If you’re going to go 5 minutes out of your way to find a merchant then catch back up with the group, how much money do you have to save over selling it on the TP?

If ANet put in a button that I could press to list at minimum sell order every item in my bags (excluding my invisible bag) that was priced within 50c of vendor price, I would wear it out.
