Had no idea you couldn’t salvage badge armor before this update. No notes when I bought my badge armor, and I never bought any rune that cost enough to use a transmute stone. Only cheap runes and badge/ karma armor, using only wvw skins for appearance because as a wvw player, looks are second to trying new builds and new armors. After a couple months, spending around 30gold on different armor and rune combinations I had 3 sets of badge armor and finally decided I would buy a set of knights badge armor to test and put runes of speed in to prepare for ferocity nerf.

After the patch I tried using these speed runes on a different set to see how I could live with these changes, and bam. Surprise screwed. Why the hell is there nothing done about this? I never wanted anything fancy, just kill players and be killed doing stupid stuff. Some badge armor gold costs are close to its price on the trade post, yet no extracting or upgrades?

Very surprised its taking this long to receive communication regarding this.

See I’m the opposite when it comes to armor in WvW. I would rather sport awesome armor and weapons that looks ordinary. I wouldn’t even turn on my backpack for display, not that I do anyways. Hate the look of all back pieces.

I honestly don’t get why we can’t salvage WvW gear, there’s no profit to be made if people wanted to buy and salvage. It would cost more in gold then you would get back. Please allow us to do this so people can theory craft/salvage runes out. Many people have had runes stuck in WvW gear since the latest patch. Or at least give a warning when adding runes to non salvageable gear.

You do realize you get T6 materials (maybe T5) with possible Ectos and Dark Matter from salvaging an Exotic with no Rune on them….right? There is a reason they are not salvageable.

I agree there needs to be a solution to obtain the upgrades off the items, but the effects of potential exploiting needs to be considered (because it DOES exist).

WvW armor costs badges with gold sum (about 1g per piece, varies on the piece). So the Metal/Cloth/Leather is a reason they aren’t salvageable? It’s still a loss to salvage, even with 3 ectos.

Absolutely true. I’m hoping they’ll come to their senses about how the TP is affecting gameplay and realize they should make things like Sigils and Runes 100% craftable across the board so the prices will drop and make the mats readily available. It’s crazy expensive to try to gear out a character. I feel bad for new players.

That being said, there’s absolutely no way of getting those out of armor without buying those special tools from the store and the exchange for gems isn’t always friendly.

I bought some faction armor (Vigil) for the skins and despite being crazy expensive (almost 9g for a full set of rare pieces) these are not salvageable either. Seriously what the heck.

They could just add in the functionality of upgrades transfer via the same method with their wardrobe. They only need to add another button for it among the option since the functionality already exist, it shouldn’t be too hard to implement it IF they really wanted to.

I was thinking this whole wardrobe feature would be like Lord of the Rings Online only a step up since your saving a copy of the skin of all the armor you destroyed / salvaged but no it’s actually 2 steps backwards compared to the armor skin mechanic of LOTRO at least there they don’t charge you anything to change armor skin you just put it in a “skin” slot a sub window that mirrors your equipment and it only affects the look of the item and then you’re free to dispose said armor you’ve copied the skin.

I liked the old transmutation stone mechanic better at least with it i still get to transfer runes/ upgrades around.

Yes if they could somehow add it into the Wardrobe. To allow us to remove Sigils/Runes from gear at the cost of 1 Transmutation Charge each.

That would be acceptable as well. Using a Transmute Charge to remove Sigils/Runes ONLY. (Leaving Extractors to remove more pricey Infusions.)

I have no issues at all with the price of the Extractor itself. Agony Infusions/WvW on the high end are expensive and it is fine that they require a higher price to remove.

But most Sigils/Runes do not. This would not be an issue if it were not for Karma/WvW/Order armors being unsalvagable. But they are, and WvW players are encouraged to use their Badges of Honor to buy armor there. Most new players not even being aware that they cannot be salvaged later.

Please enable salvaging for karma and wvw-items. It’s unfair that wvw-players get punished for playing and buying their armor with bagdes of honor as you get too less gold in WvW for “normal” exotic items.

Still have several superios runes of perplexity and superior sigills of bursting in my armor. I already had to destroy about 50 gold ;_;

AND this extractor from the game shop is way too expensive. Anyway – doesn’t Anet already earn money with the Black Lion salvaging kits?! It’s a shame!

Don’t forget that WvW badges are also a cost. These badges should be treated similar to dungeon tokens. Don’t be afraid to award WvW players for their efforts.

Dear Anet,

I like the wardrobe change, but this new problem needs to be addressed. It might be time to remove all salvage restrictions all together, since the karma exploits that made you put them in in the first place are long gone and karma is much harder to get anyway now.

As for gear from wvw badges, again, there is not point for restriction now, the badge only vendors are gone.

A lot of us have runes/sigils stuck and we want to use them, not buy new ones and destroy gear with expensive upgrades.

We at least deserve a response to this.

Or make a rune/sigil only option that won’t work on infusions and price it so you can get a set extractor (6 pieces) for 250 gems.

2 Months and still nothing addressing the issue of of valuable Sigils/Runes being trapped in unsalvagable gear.

And then the price of moving them being upped from 50 gems to 250 gems.

(Transmutation stone/crystal functionality to move Sigils/Runes being removed. And the Upgrade Extractor, far more expensive being the only way to move them now.)

Because if they just keep sweeping the issue under the rug. It means obviously they aren’t screwing the player base.

To retain the same functionality had before the Wardrobe patch it now costs 200 more gems to do what was already possible to do before they removed it from the game.

I love how they refuse to acknowledge forcing a 50 gem functionality. The ability to move runes/sigils between new gear. (From the Transmuation Stones/Crystals.) Stripping it away, not including it into the Wardrobe.

Then forcing all Karma/WvW/Order gears to use a 250 gem item. (Upgrade Extractor) To remove upgrades that were previously able to be moved for 1/5th of the cost.

That’s actually not a terrible solution. What I had in mind was just make the salvage table zero materials, and only give the rune/sigil back on salvage (depending on kit used).

Though, it’s not like this is a new problem. I even made a thread before the wardrobe patch went live about the workaround (transmutation crystals) being lost.

^ This. Maybe the situation used to be different when this gear was first implemented, dunno, I wasn’t playing back then, but karma isn’t exactly easy to get post-nerf. If you spend 1mil+ on karma gear, you spent time farming for that. I don’t see why it’s unreasonable to have them salvage as normal.

Badges are a bit more debateable since they’re so easily accessible in EoTM, but I still doubt that salvaging them would result in more profit than the gold cost used to buy them. Hell, raise the number of badges a bit if they make them salvageable, if it really matters that much, but there’s no reason for these things to remain as they are.

Given the math, not being able to salvage this kind of equipment is crazy pants.

643 gold at the current rate is out of this world excessive for 5000 gems to purchase 25 extractors.

Cheaper to just buy new runes/sigils but it still would be nice to salvage WvW gear, if you just got back the rune/sigil.

It honestly makes little sense, that they removed something that had always been there since launch. With no reasoning, thought or announcement.

There was no, “Your ability to move runes with Transmutation will soon be eliminated entirely!” At least nowhere anyone has ever seen one.

Then it was sneakily upgraded to 250 gems (with the excuse of it being for Agony Resist upgrades) and then silence. Kind of like that Watchwork pick.

And you know they’ve seen both of these threads by now. I can only assume:

Both of these were on purpose, and they no longer actually care about the player-base anymore. As both actions were clearly to simply monetize their bottom line. (And had negative reactions/responses from the player-base.)

Eh, I don’t agree. They are often silent when something isn’t working as intended, but they don’t have the specific solution worked out yet.

We know they don’t want to make converting karma to gold too easy (they’ve adjusted karma and karma->gold conversion methods a couple of times already). We can guess that they have the same interest in limiting badge-of-honor->gold. I’m sure that they are worried about the impact on the economy if they introduce a “perfect salvage kit” (as exists in GW1), due to the major impact that would have on supply and demand of meta-usable upgrades.

Therefore, I speculate that they intend, at some point, to make it easier (and cheaper) to move valuable upgrades from old gear to new gear, but we won’t hear anything until it’s ready-for-prime-time.

I just deleted a whole bunch of my WvW armor from my bank yesterday because I feel Anet will never change this. And if they do, it’ll be too little, too late. I’m sick of waiting.

It’s like the whole bloodstone dust/empyreal fragments/dragonite ore saga. Players have an abundance of it, and for months, we’re just left in the dark wondering to delete it or not (I myself am just deleting stacks upon stacks of it now because it’ll probably be the next blue moon before they actually do something about it).

Currently going through the already crazy cost of making ascended armour. For me to buy a new set of runes will cost ~ 50g. To extract them using extractors at the current gem conversion price ~240g. Absoultely ridiculous this new system – you’d have to be made to buy the extractors so why have them in there. Or do Anet just leave then there to rip off new players who don’t know better I wonder?

Please just give us an option to transmute in the same way the old stones worked. Please…

This. Ideally recovering upgrades should be made available. Failing that, we should have some way to recover part of our investment by salvage/forge/etc.
