It's time to tank and hoard ectos?
Unlikely. The number of people farming event chests is a lot greater than the Cof token ectos.
In 2 hours I can get like 15 rares, along with the 200 other people who zerg around with me. That is where most of the supply comes from. Prices may rise slightly due to speculation, but I suspect the final result to be about the same.
Main income of ectos is meta event farm, so i doubt.
Most used: Guard/Mes/War/Nec/Ele.
Yes, i use 5 chars at time. Because REASONS.
How many rares can you usually get in an hour from farming CoF?

“cof farmers salvaging tokens” I believe he said.

About 5 from just tokens?
Right, I understand what he meant was just wondering what the end result would be for ectos to get a better idea of what the impact is.
If it is 5 then that’s about half compared to events. That’s of course ignoring drops. I don’t run CoF so I’m not sure what the optimal builds would be and if mf is included which would have some impact.
Now with half compared to events what’s left is how many people doing it. Anyone think they have a good CoF:Events ratio estimate?

I run 5-10 cof a day and do most the meta events. Most my ectos come from the latter.
Would you be able to give an estimate as to what % or is it negligible? Trying to understand if the impact would be significant enough to think about the investment.

You completely ignore ascended armor and 400-500 crafting. I highly doubt those recipes will not require many stacks of ecto.
I use all my tokens on outfitting my alts with zerker gear and I’m sure I’m not the only one. I doubt ectos will rise.

This ^^
The ascended armor thing is interesting. Do you think it would be in addition to the new mats?
I initially just assumed it would be only the new mats but I hadn’t really thought about it :P

But “ascended armor requires ectos” is plain and pure speculation atm.
Ofc i think too it’s very likely to be so, but that’s another thing.

Don’t celestial recipes need ecto even though they use account bound mats? I haven’t spent my cqc yet.
Yes, the celestial recipes require the same number of ectos as any equivalent 400-tier crafting recipe.
I don’t think the CoF nerf will drastically affect ecto prices, because people will find alternate ways to farm them. Also, as others have speculated, a respectable portion of ectos come from farming the meta events.
Since ANet wants ectos to be a prime trading item, my opinion is that the ascended armors will require ectos in some form, possibly through intermediary recipes like the Gifts for legendaries. I think there will likely be a spike in ecto prices because everyone’s going to want top-tier gear all at the same time. However, I don’t expect that increase to be permanent, because the demand will drop off as people get their characters geared.

Gotta love the GreyMarket Reverse-psychology posts that usually come up in this forum.
….Nice loophole around your anti Ad policy Anet.
(especially when all indicators from Colin’s blog suggests the exact OPPOSITE)

Every Tier of Crafting thus far has been only 1 and 1/2 full sets…which only amounts to ~45 ectos. Meanwhile I’ve already made twice that many Exotic sets on most of my disciplines by now and I STILL DON’T HAVE a DPS set for my Guardian yet >:P ….this doesn’t begin to factor in Superior Runes that are not only highly profitable…. but will be super easy for smart investors right now to secure all the Mats for them they’ll ever need.

I betting my money on mats of all tiers. My guess is that T7 will probably require a combination of t1 to t6 mats along with ectos of course. There is also the fact that Anet is going to revamp reward system. T6 Mats might b so rare anymore and the supply might increase proportionally to the demand resulting in no increase at all. They also said that crafting ascended will be time gated and that will also reduce the impact on market prices.
“…let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we shall die;.”
Depending how badly time gated materials will be, and how many Ectos required per pieces. You will have your answer. COF Farm is not a big source of Ectos compare to World Bosses. However, the new changes might push people to do World Bosses, since they did mentioned some of the time gated materials can come from World Bosses chest. That will cause an increase in rares, thus Ectos supply
The time gating will determine the value of the new mats, the amount of lower mats required will most likely not be the limiting factor.

This makes the most sense when you consider the new temporary vendors exchanging lower tier mats for zephyr boxes. They wanted to burn up some of the backlog so that crafting would not be too easy and ensure people played in lower tier areas to gather those mats or pay a decent price for them on the TP.
They will certainly introduce a time gate to acquiring ascended armor and weapons. You won’t be able to buy all the materials and make it instantly.
I think the prices of the materials will fluctuate violently at first and stabilize shortly after. If there is any profit to be made from this you have to place your bets early and be ready to sell at the right time.
with the new dungeon system its likely that people will not farm cof anymore, but change to farming all quick and easy dungeon paths in all dungeons. the amount of rares will probably not decrease.
