I have over 2M karma that i would like to turn into gold. I know there are better things then orrian boxes but not sure what is most efficient. Any advise would be greatly appricated.

I think the consensus (or used to be) is to buy lower level armor pieces with karma, throw 4 in the Flusher and salvage (or sell) for gold.

Karma vendor (Heart) on West end of Stormbluff Isle (Bloodtide Coast) sells gauntlets that I’m told generate profitable items (for the amount of Karma required).

Well one way, not sure about efficiancy though, but the quaggen crab heart vendor in bloodtide coast, you can get the light crab grabbing gloves, drop 4 in the MF and salvage for linen. I think you get 1-3 scraps per, and linen bolts are pretty decently priced for selling IIRC.

As you can tell, turning karma into gold at a good return is very very time-intensive. mystic conduit would make it a lot better, but still not great. I believe these karma armors are around 400 karma? then 1600 for 4 of them, coats give an average of 3 scraps each, that’s 13s57c per 1600 karma or 8s48c per 1000 karma or 1g per 11,790 karma. So 2 million karma would get 169g. That requires buying 5,000 items. maybe 150 per trip? 33 trips. 1,250 forgings.

for comparison, I believe the orrian boxes give about 1g per 30,000 karma.

btw, there’s also beaded weapons. they give about 30-40s profit per 1575 karma, but require a lot of time as well (buy thousands of sun beads, then craft piles of weapons)

There are several ways to turn karma into gold, the most economic efficient of which is to craft items that require karma-based ingredients and have a high profit:cost ratio.

My baseline for investing karma is the money one might save by purchasing fine or basic salvage kits with karma rather than gold, i.e. 11.43s/1,000 karma. (below, kK stands for kilo Karma, or 1,000 karma)

• Crafting & selling unidentified dyes: 25-40s/kK
• Crafting & selling beaded weapons: 15-40s/kK
• Buying cloth grabbin’ gloves, salvaging results, and selling: 10-15s/kK
• Buying karma gear that forges (at low rates) into valued skins or named items: net loss up to 80s/kK
• Orrian Jewelery Boxes: ~1.5-3s/kK, including some value for getting obby shards.

While this is true, these are even less efficient than the other methods I mentioned.

Karma is one of those things that’s useless until you need it, and then it’s a kitten to get if you don’t have any. You’re better off saving it for things you may want in the future. Namely anything to do with obsidian shards. Be it ascended weapons/armor or legendary weapons. You may not be interested in crafting one right now, but a legendary costs ~1 million karma.

clover recipe currently yields, on average, -9s74c/1000Karma. yes, almost a 10s LOSS per 1000 karma. worst exchange rate yet suggested, yet people always suggest it.
legendaries are in the 50s-1g per 1000Karma range (but also require gift of exploration and SP, so it’s not as good as it sounds)

Well, when you run things like Teq constantly, karma gathers faster than gold.

Just an FYI, the karma armor you’re buying is 266 karma per item. I’ve used this method, spent 10k and turned it into roughly a gold.

Another thing you can do with this method if you wanna take a gamble, turn the linen into Zepher Supply Crates(2 linen for a crate), open them up and use the tokens to either unlock skins you don’t have or buy gauntlet tickets and try to RNG the Chaos of Lyssa recipe.

I’d like to think that over time more things to spend Karma on will be added, but I’m not convinced.

well, they do add karma items, but they also really hate it when people turn karma into gold. So anything they add they will do their utmost to make it non-tradable. So don’t get your hopes up for a better exchange rate.

In first place, Karma shouldn’t be converted to Gold. Gold shouldn’t be the key of everything.

But after you get all the karma skins you want, karma only has a couple of uses.

Ascended Recipes: ~24k or so, not very expensive.
Legendary Weapons: ~1 mil, takes a while but doable
Oby Shards (for ascended refinement): If you’re just doing it for your armor/weapon set, not very bad at all. If you’re doing it to save space and not through out your dust/dragonite/fragments then it can be quiet expensive.
Convert to gold: Orrian Boxes (fast but bad return) or cheap weapons/armor to forge (very time consuming)

Honestly, when right before the MF patch hit I had maybe 2-3 mil karma. I ended up spending ~9 mil karma on Orrian Boxes and still had 1 mil by the time I was done.

I got a nice amount of lodestones/cores and maybe 5-10g from unidentified objects. Even now (since I have a stack of 250 oby shards) whenever I get to say, 1.5-2.0 mil karma I’ll go buy 250-500 boxes, what else is karma good for? I already have 3 sets of armor on my main (1 ascended, 2 exotic), and I don’t want to clog up more inventory space with a set of Soldier’s gear (though I wouldn’t mind it). And I will be saving some karma to unlock all the temple armor skins because “why not,” but besides that it just collects in my wallet.

Karma is very similar to every other time gated/ascended mat. Dragonite, Dust, Fragments, Dark Matter, and Karma: all priceless until you have all that you need, after that, they’re pretty pointless. At least you can use Dark Matter and Karma to get a little bit of gold, so why not?

I don’t make much gold, and I’m by no means rich, but I do like making some “bonus” ~5 gold every 2-3 months by going to buy some boxes, along with 7-10 lodestones I’ll just throw in my bank for a rainy day.

Karma isn’t as valuable as you think it is (unless you’re trying to save for a legendary/ascended crafting).

When the wardrobe system came out I bought cultural weapons and threw them in the forge to unlock the skins. This is a really quick way of spending karma without making much money back. About 40c per kk for greatswords I would guess. Don’t do that.

So there is no other good use of Karma except some cooking materials, cultural weapon skins if needed, and an exotic set of gear? Doesn’t seems unfair, but what if we’re on “End-Game” like 1.5 years long?

End game in gw2 is whatever you make it out to be from grind legendary to quitting. Karma was reduce specific because pal had too many and anet did not care enough to develop karma sinks.

I would like to convert my Gold to Karma….

I just spent 2.6 million Karma on the weekend buying 1250 Obsidian Shards. (For Ascended material refinement.)

I spent about 1 mil Karma to unlock skins when the Wardrobe system dropped. Now down to about 300K. Still considering a Temple set for WvW alt armor.

I don’t think the Devs loath turning karma into gold any longer. I do think they felt that players farming karma and getting filthy rich (like several hundred gold) in the first weeks of the games release needed to be stomped on.

i have about 16 million karma. Not spending them. Pretty easy to make gold. But not karma.

going to spend some to unlock wardrobe when I’m not too lazy for it.
