I’m curious, how do you guys feel about Legendaries just being buyable weapons that anyone with enough gold can get?

Yes, the market does make them pretty pricy, but I’ve noticed a lot of people lately who don’t have Map completion but do have legendary weapons. Now I could give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they just did map completion on another character, but I think for most people thats probably not the case.

I’m cool with most things being on the TP, but Legendaries feel a little off. Whats your take?

to me yes i have seen people with legendarys without map completion because you can make a legendary for another charater. and my honest oppinion about legendarys being buy able on the tradin post is this

you have woked hard to get the legendary countless hours of farmming and killing and maping. its an acomplishment to you. buying a legendary just says Im rich. now i understand that farmming gold is not easy and takes time but id rather see legendarys account bound so that maybe my warrior can use surise and my mesmer can as well, after all the work you put in to have just one charater lug around a legendary kind of sucks.

Account bound legendaries is a must

Map completion means nothing seeing as you get 2 gifts for 1 completion. I am about to make Dreamer for my thief who has 20% of the world explored.

Legendaries on the TP is the most bs thing I’ve ever seen. There is nothing legendary about buying gems, converting to gold and buying one off the TP.

We’ve had quite a few threads about this before and I’ve always maintained that Legendaries shouldn’t be something that money alone can buy.

Can’t be bothered to find the exact quote but wasn’t wielding a Legendary supposed to mean you have mastered multiple areas of the game, and not just CoF P1 farming or power trading? This was what distinguished Legendaries from any other weapon skin. As long as it remains tradable it will be just another weapon skin, nothing Legendary about it.

Either way I can’t see them reverting the decision now that the cat is out of the bag. The backlash from the people who have only been farming or trading in hopes of buying their legendary will be too great.

I would like to see the state of a Legendary weapon change to Account Bound as well.

But one addition I’d like to make is that it never becomes Soul Bound on equip. That way, you can work hard toward crafting your Legendary, then use it on any lvl 80 character that can use that weapon type.

You’d only need to craft 1 of each Legendary weapon that way too….and to have a whole arsenal of Legendaries is something many high-end players would strive to do.

Main reason I’m not fine with it is it helps players avoid the non cash portion of legendaries, which were clearly part of the process of making one by design.

I don’t think people should be able to skip getting world completion, getting 500 dungeon tokens, 500 WvW tokens, all the normally unbuyable things by just paying more money.

As for them not being soul bound on equip, I’m all for that regardless. Even if they remained sellable, I think once you equip one they should become account bound not soul bound. That’s far more important to me honestly.

Agreed, hopefully going forward they don’t allow future legendary items to be sold in this manner.

I honestly don’t mind that they can be traded. To buy with gems alone you’d be dropping at least a grand on just one item. Also, the cost of the legendaries are typically 600+ gold more than the cost of making the item yourself. For the patient ones, you can sell the legendary you make and use that gold to make another (same or different) for much cheaper and work towards another with those profits

When I am finally able to craft the predator and the juggernaut I will be very grateful if I can just buy the underwater ones.

Yeah I see where you’re coming from with it, its nice to have that option if Gold is your thing. Its just Legendaries were framed in such a way that they took a monumental amount of personal effort to obtain, and the fact that you can get one without ever having set foot near the mystic forge, or even half completed the world map, feels a little off to me.

In my opinion, as soon as they allowed legendaries to be bought on the trading post, they lost most of their prestige. Sure the “they’re so pretty” part is still there but the hard work and determination aspect can no longer be assumed.

I’m personally going for exotic weapons now. It’s a lot easier on the wallet and some still have the same wow factor because so many people don’t seem to know how many exotics exists.

But, I think there is a reason. Legendaries are simply a cosmetic item, with no increase in stats.
Ascended Items have better stats than normal exotics.
Legendaries have the exact same stats as exotics, and therefore are called Cosmetic items, unlike ascended items which have better stats.

ANet have said that Legendaries are and always will be best-in-slot. The only reason that they have the same stats as exotics now is due to the fact that there are no Ascended weapons released yet.

The only problem with buying gems/converting to gold/buying a legendary is the conversion.

Right now in game 1 gold is = to $1.00 US. So, since most legendaries are 2000+ gold, who the hell has 2000+ dollars to drop on a virtual weapon? I’m lucky to make my car payment and rent.

Except at the current rate of about 1.1g per $1, the cheapest legendary on sale, “The Moot” would cost $1,204 USD and the most expensive, “Frostfang” would cost $2,181 USD.

So, if someone if going to spend that much in gems to buy a legendary – then good for them!

Yes. Ascended items should be trade-able. In fact, most things should be trade-able. It would alleviate the pain of having to grind something you may not want to grind for a reward you want, rather than playing the way you want to play and still having a chance to purchase said item.
