Hello, what i wanted to propose is that the game itself show’s you the total amount of money you lose on taxes.

Why?

I’m TIRED of finding something that i can produce, sell and win money, and watch how in a matter of days, that item falls below the price cost. So this armor costs 3g in items, and you see it at 2.9g (and they dont even think of the 15%), and it’s SO frustating…

I know about supply and demand, but, that’s just ridiculous…

If people are already selling for below the material costs (and I mean material buy orders, not sell orders), then notifying them of the tax really isn’t going to make that much of a difference.

Yes, the 10% tax should be calculated and listed on the selling interface.

No, this won’t really help with people who are already willing to sell at an obvious loss. I mostly craft to level up my crafting, and I know I’m not alone in this, so I’m willing to sell things at some loss compared to mats cost. Also, for non-bind-on-use items goods, at least some of the stuff on the TP is stuff a character outgrew and replaced. I don’t need to sell my level whatever armor for a profit when I’m now at level whatever+5, because I’ve gotten five good levels of use out of it, which is surely worth the few excess coins I spent on materials.

The problem is people don’t know how much it “cost” to make an item and not so much lack of education of the 15% TP fee. Even if you were to simply add up the vender values of all of the materials you needed to craft the item you might find that by selling the crafted item you would get less than what you would get if you just sell all the materials to a vender. I’m not aware of any MMO where a crafted item sells for more than it cost to buy the materials from others to make, except for the best possible item of each particular subset (tier) of items. I’m not sure what the solution is to get prices to line up with “cost” to make, other than adjusting supply. Problem is I don’t think over supply will ever go down on anything crafted that is less than the best possible items. For everything else the prices appear to go up and down. I’ve sold some items that I listed for what I felt they were worth and after at least 7 days about half of them have sold and the others probably will sell eventually as the sold price range fluctuates up and down to the point where the top of the range hits my listed price.

I’m not saying this cause i dont want to calculate, but because much people doesnt know about this. So if there are 20 people selling an endgame armor (which can only be crafted on purpose) below it’s price cost, something’s wrong… Or that’s how I see it.

If you have the item in your inventory, another easy way is to take off three times the listing fee.

Personally, I tend to just type in x * 0.85 or x / 0.85 into Google (where x is the appropriate number).

The main problem is a relatively common one in many MMOs – players often act as though the materials they’ve gathered are “free”, and so anything they craft makes a profit.

Ultimately, this is something that will always be a factor unless people actually learn to consider opportunity costs – i.e. the other things they could’ve done with those materials (most notably selling them).

There are a couple of other important points to bring up here, though:
1) Just because it isn’t profitable given current material prices, doesn’t mean that it can’t be profitable overall; the materials could have been bought at significantly cheaper prices.

2) Crafting is not the only way to make endgame armor; some of these items could have come out of the Mystic Forge.

3) The armor might have been made by someone expecting to make a profit, only to find that the price of the armor suddenly dropped below the profit line; that player might then have decided to cut their losses and just sell it.

Yeah, that tpcalc site looks far more cumbersome than multiplying or dividing by 0.85, either on Google or on my phone, depending on which is handier at the moment.

Heck, for anyone used to figuring out 15% tips at restaurants, it’s not even that hard to do in your head.

If filling out literally 3 fields is cumbersome, I’m not sure what to tell you.

Edit: nevermind, I guess it is compared to typing it into google. But it also has other benefits.

Yeah, i guess you’re right. Still, I’d prefer the literal tax show :P

Yeah, although it wouldn’t fix the issues you bring up, it would nonetheless be a good improvement to the user interface.
