Lvl. 80 Axes, Maces, and Pistols
Depends on the levels but most probably they put in buy orders to salvage them for luck and common mats. Some weapons also drop inscriptions.

There are much cheaper and more profitable things to salvage for luck, though, and no profit to be made flipping these items. I’ve been trying to figure it out for a while, and likely there’s a dumb reason I’m just missing, but I remain curious.
Anyway, here is an example: http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/25865
Apologies to those in these markets, but why do a few people have very large orders for fine and masterwork quality of these weapons, when most other weapons and armor of similar lvl and quality sell only for around vendor price?
It may be luck, but i think it’s because these items have a higher chance if dropping a t6 than others.

If you check spidy for lvl 80 blue axes, you will have 10 listings, including your Clerics Axe. 7 of them have a buyorder price of 2s to 2s4c. 3 of them have a buy order price closer to vendor price, which could mean that no buy orders have been placed at 2s because their droprate is so low that its not worth putting orders in or so high that they have been filled. All other Axes at 2s also spot a regular price spike to 2.5s, so if you flip them from 2s to 2.5s, you still make a profit.

Is this really true? And if so, why do they have a higher chance at dropping T6? First I’ve heard of comparable items having different drop rates.

It’s not proven, and it might be just luck. But when I realized that some weapons (they were only 1handed weapons though) had a higher price than others in the TP figured that there must be some trick to it. I assumed it was because of this, and since that moment I have always salvaged all those weapons.
I recall getting a lot of ori out of Axes, but much more mithril out of, say, 1h Swords. From Shields I would get either Ori or Ancient Wood, from Warhorns too.
I have never kept track of my findings, but when I had my bags full I usually got enough t6 to consider them worth of being salvaged rather than vendored
Good luck

The chance of getting rarer materials (t6) stated on the salvage kits is bugged or the tooltip is wrong.
It might be that each item has an internal droprate of higher tier mats, lets say 10%.
Those 10% then get influenced by the salvage kit. So if you salvage a lvl 80 sword and use a cruel kit, you get ori on 10% of the salvages and if you use a rare kit (25% to get rarer mats) you get ori on 12.5% of the salvages.
So if my theory of internal droprates on items for rarer mats is right, it might as well be that this rate is higher for maces, axes or pistols than for swords.
Another theory is that those weapons you mentioned have a chance to drop ore or wood, while swords or greatswords only drop ore and staffs only drop wood.
So if the pride for ore is less than for wood, you would pay more for a mace than a sword.
